Ms.Mylene S. Harris

Obituary Mylene Sylvia Harris passed away on August 14, 2021 at the age of 87, after of a courageous battle with Corticobasal Degeneration. She was surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She was affectionately known as a wife, mother, sister, “Grammie” or “Gram Gram”. Mylene was born in Kansas City, Missouri to Morris and Viola Harmon on December 13, 1933. She was one of 8 children. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Mylene worked for the United States Postal Office, where she later retired. With her former and late spouse Thomas Barker, she had 2 incredible children: Wanda and Tony. She later married her loving husband, John Harris, with whom she shared much of her life. Mylene was best known for creating delicious meals for her family and for her quick wit. She had a love for the finest things in life and had a way of creating amazing Christmas decorations and arranging designer outfits. She was always dressed like she belonged in a Vogue catalogue, even if at home she wore the fanciest Kimonos. Many memories were shared with her working at commercial buildings with her late husband John and children/ grandkids. She had a love for traveling worldwide and was always ready for adventure near or far. She loved shopping, watching black and white films, Denzel Washington, and James Patterson type suspense books. She filled her home with soulful music from Mahalia Jackson to Janet Jackson. And kept up with current events and celebrity gossip and humored everyone around with her way or words. Mylene was preceded in death by her late Husband: John Harris(Kansas City, KS) her daughter; Wanda Jones(California) her brothers and sisters: Williams Harmon(Guadalajara, MX) Morris Harmon (Kansas City, MO) Elijah Harmon (Kansas City, MO) Willie B. Johnson (Pomona, CA) Louis Triel (Long Beach, CA) And Thelma Rucker (New Haven, CT) and Bethenia Close(sp., Kansas City, MO.) Mylene leaves to cherish a loving son Tony(Rhonda) of Kansas City, MO. 5 grandchildren: Flynn Jones(Stacy), Gabrielle Jones(Cheryl), Ranon Jones(Jennifer), Spenser Harris, and Whitney Harris. She leaves 3 great-grandchildren Antoinette Harris, Ronan Jones, and Sterling Shields II. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends. A Graveside Service will be held Friday, September 3, 2021, 11:00am at Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2nd from 5pm-7pm at the chapel.
