Rosa Mae Carter

Rosa Mae Carter was the Matriarch of our family. Gracefully being the head of our family, a venerable woman, entered into Eternal Rest on November 21, 2017. Rosa was born May 23, 1929, in Aberdeen, Mississippi to the loving union of George Smith and Essie Lee Cunningham. She was proceeded in rest by her husband, Leo Carter, her mother and father, three brothers, and one sister. Rosa was educated at Ebenezer Elementary School in Aberdeen, Mississippi and Okolona High School in Okolona, Mississippi. Rosa confessed her belief in Christ at an early age. After moving to Kansas City, Missouri in 1947, she joined Bethel Baptist Church. She would often say ?I?ve been at Bethel for over sixty-five years and will do whatever is asked of me to help build God?s Kingdom.? Rosa was a dedicated employee for over thirty-five years at Osteopathic Hospital. She was a hard worker in housekeeping, a Labor leader and Union Steward. She was a unique Seamstress that specialized in making and designing curtains, sheets, and towels. If you needed your pants hemmed, she gladly did that too. You named it or brought it, she could and would sew it. Rosa was a profound cook and baker ,from homemade fried pies to handpicked mixed greens and homemade dressing. She had a gift of a green thumb. You had a plant that wasn?t doing too well she could revive it. She always had her little garden in her backyard with tomatoes, okra, and greens just to name a few. Gardening and manicuring her yard to perfection was always her specialty, being recognized for having the prettiest yard on the block. Rosa took great pride in making Holidays, Sunday dinners, and birthdays very special with a personalized touched to all her family and friends. She made everyone welcome in her home and without a doubt you never left out empty handed. Rosa Mae Carter leaves to cherish her precious memory and legacy, two sons, James Green (Lisa) of Independence, Missouri and Minister George Green of Centennial, Colorado; four daughters: Debra Neal of Lenexa, Kansas, Carol Green of Kansas City, Missouri, Evelyn Green of Denver, Colorado, and Patricia Carter of Kansas City, Missouri; four brothers: Willie Montgomery of Denver, Colorado, Boyd Smith of Kansas City, Missouri, George Smith of Fort Madison, Iowa and David Smith of Memphis, Tennessee; two sisters, Myrdis Woodard of East St. Louis, Illinois and Mable Smith of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of God-children, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Funeral Service for Rosa Mae Carter will be held Saturday, December 2, 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 4300 E. 18th St. Visitation will be on Friday December 1, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lawrence A. Jones and Funeral Chapel, 1800 E. Linwood Blvd. Second Visitation will be Saturday, December 2, From 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, 4300 E. 18th Street. Interment, Park Lawn Cemetery
