Deacon Roosevelt Green, Jr.

Roosevelt Donnell Green, Jr. (born Donnell J.W. Moore) was born on October 29, 1941, to Mr. Wylie J. Moore and Ms. Arthur May Hill. His mother later married Mr. Roosevelt Green, Sr., who adopted and changed his name. His parents, grandparents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death. Roosevelt, also known as R.D., attended K.C. public schools and graduated from Manuel High School. He furthered his education at community college, graduating from Vatterott & Sullivan and the Electronic Institute. R.D. was a workaholic with a natural mechanical inclination, a talent that allowed him to fix almost anything. His career included roles at Hallmark Cards, General Motors, and R.H. Macy’s. He retired in 2004 after 20 years with the Unified School District (USD 500) in K.C., KS. He and his wife also owned several businesses and a non-profit organization: Cyn-Don Cleaning Services, Cynthia Tours, and Sisters of the Spirit. R.D. accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of First Baptist Church (KCK), New Hope B.C., and Rising Star B.C. (KCK); lastly, Friendship B.C., under Pastor J.A. Terrance, Jr. R.D., was a sociable and compassionate person who loved to talk, regardless of whether anyone talked back. He regularly called to check on the elderly and loved helping with projects. Ordained as a deacon under Rev. J.R. Williamson, R.D. remained dedicated to his deacon ministry, continuing to visit and call on the sick in hospitals and nursing homes, even during eight years of personal illness. R.D. was a faithful I.B. Blackburn Masonic Lodge member since October 1975. He was a Mason, Past Master, and attended Fred Lee School of Masonic Institute. R.D. married Judith Ann, and they had five children. He later married Michelle, and they had one child. Eventually, he met the love of his life, Cynthia Marie, with whom he shared 45 wonderful years and two children. R.D. was known for his humor and uplifting presence, always able to bring a smile to others. He loved fishing, bowling, hunting, cracking jokes, and traveling the world with his beloved wife. His family was his pride and joy, and he often bragged about his “beautiful little wife” to anyone who would listen. R.D. had a deep sense of humor and was known for never meeting a stranger. He also loved coordinating outfits with Cynthia, a daily tradition that spanned over 40 years, not just for Sunday mornings. R.D. adored hearing Cynthia sing and often requested his favorite songs, proclaiming, “You’re the best thing that ever happened to me.” R.D. leaves to cherish his memories: loving wife, Cynthia Marie, of 45 years; three daughters, Alice (Gary); Tameka (Sturgiss); and Chrystal (Mazi); five sons, Raymond (Suzette); Dr. Donnell (Linda); Brian (Elandia); Edward (Angela); and Dale; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Margie Smith of Cypress, TX; and Teresa Moore of Chicago, IL; along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other beloved family, and friends. Special friends include Johnni Michele, Johan, Angela W., Carlton, Rodney and Sheilah, T.J., and Aunt Clara Mae. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. (noon) at Friendship Baptist Church 3530 Chelsea Drive KCMO 64128. Interment: Forest Hill Cemetery.
