Mr. Robert Emery, Sr.

Obituary Robert Emery Sr. died on July 2nd, 2021. "Big Bob", as he was affectionately known, was born October 13th, 1949 in Glasgow, Missouri to the parents of Josie Mae Emery and Robert Joseph White. He attended high school in Glasgow, Missouri and had a stellar basketball career. This career led him to being enshrined in the 2020 Missouri Basketball Hall of Fame. On November 23rd,1969 he married his wife of almost 52 years Charlene Williams before serving his country in Vietnam. While serving his country he was honoured to receive a Purple Heart, Bronze Star and later personally received a unit citation from President Obama presented in the Rose Garden as a member of the first Vietnam unit to be bestowed with such an honor. He was employed as a press operator at Hallmark card for 32 years. Upon retirement he enjoyed the outdoors and following his grandchildren's activities. He was an active member of his south Kansas City neighborhood and was known for fixing bikes, toys and as an overall neighborhood repairman. He was preceded in death by both parents and beloved siblings Charles "Danny" Davis, Willis "Marie" Davis and Calvin Davis. Big Bob came from a large family and extended family within multiple communities that are too numerous to mention. His immediate family consists of two children Robert Emery Jr. (Essence) and Jolonda Baston. He had 7 grandchildren, RJ Emery, Jawan Emery, Miles Emery, EJ Baston, Ashley Emery, Kache' Baston and Aydan Emery. He also had 3 great-grandchildren Madison, Avery and Riley and numerous bonus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Big Bob's remaining living siblings are Johnnie Davis Lyons(Robert),Lisa Wright (Wayne), Gwendolyn Davis, Dale Davis (Anita), Freddie Davis (Lisa),Michael Davis (Joyce),and Tim Davis (Terri). Robert will always be remembered as loving, honest and very giving. There was nothing he wouldn't give or sacrifice for his family. Graveside service will be held Friday, July 16, 2021, 12:30pm Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be held from 10am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A.
