MR. ROBERT SMITH

Obituary -- Robert Lee Smith was born in Lexington, Mo. on May 15, 1937 to Anna Mae Smith and Robert Ballard Smith. Raised in Lexington, Robert was a student at Fredrick Douglass School and would later be one of the first African American students to attend and graduate from Lexington High School. Robert joined the United States Army soon after graduating. After serving 4 years, he returned home to Lexington, Mo. with his first wife. They would have 2 children from this union. Robert worked nearly all of his life. As a young man, he worked multiple jobs with his father and brother and as an adult he would work for Lexington High School, the Presbytarian Church, the Methodist Church and other businesses. He would later move to Kansas City, Mo. with his second wife and step children. They would have 2 children from this union. Robert continued to work until his retirement from LHS in 1999. Robert loved the Lord and was His faithful servant. He was proud to serve the Lord at Victory Temple Christian Life Center and enjoyed being a part of it's community. He was a Deacon for over 20 years and leaves this life as Deacon Emeritus. Robert was a loving and supportive father and husband. He loved to sing and listen to music. He loved Gospel and the Blues the most. He loved traveling with his family creating new memories and once in a lifetime adventures. Robert was creative and talented with his hands. He could repair and build anything he put his mind to. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Anna Mae and Robert Ballard. His wife, Jessie B. His brothers, Hershell and Haskel and James W. His sister Deloris M. His sons, R. Dwaine, William Jr. and Alvin A. and daughter Valerie J. He leaves behind his brother; Lawrence Smith (Pat) of Virgina. Sons; Ballard Smith (Paula) of Richmond MO., Shawn Smith (Natalie) of Independence, MO., Cris Norles of Kansas City, MO., Larry D. Norles of Kansas City, MO., Jimmie L Norles ( Kim Song) of Huntsville AL., Daughters; Robinetta Smith of Eagan, MN., and Jessica L. Norles of AppleValley, MN. 16 Grandchildren and a host of Great-grandchildren. 2 nephews and 3 nieces. Funeral Services will be held at 12pm on Monday, January 4th at Victory Temple 3301 E. 12th St. KCMO 64127. Visitation 10am. Interment Forest Hill & Calvary Cemetery.
