Mr. Richard Matthews

Richard Matthew was born March 18, 1936, in Kansas City, KS to Marcel Coles and Luviner McKinnis, later they move to KingFisher, Oklahoma, where he was educated. He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge. After serving in the United States Army, he worked for TWA and later worked for The City of Kansas City where he retired in 1993. Richard accepted Christ at an early age and later attended and became a member at Spruce St. Matthew Baptist Church for many years. Richard was married to Helen Matthews and later married Saundra J. Matthew. Richard Matthew and Saundra J. Matthew were married until his passing. In 2010 Richard Matthew won “Father of the Year” and was recognized by Congressman Cleaver Richard was known to always exemplify himself as father of the year every year. He has always worked two jobs to provide for his family, always. As a loving husband and father, Richard’s children can attest that growing up, he has always treated their mom like a queen. Richard LOVED family gathering, just to be in the presence and feel the love he received was one of the greatest feelings for him. There were plenty of family outings and several vacation travels out of town. Richard was truly loved, appreciated, respected, adored and will be truly missed. Richard was preceded in death by his mother Luviner Williams, his dad Marcel Coles Sr., his brothers Charles Williams, Albert Williams, Marcel Coles Jr., Ronald Coles, Tyrone Coles and David Coles. His sisters Elaine Carter and Janet Taylor. Richard’s children who preceded him in death are Luviner Matthew, Norman Gaines, Deborah Matthews and Darwin Robinson. Richard leaves behind his sons Richard Matthews Jr., Tyrone Robinson and Darrell Robinson and his daughters he leave behind are Marilyn Matthews, Tonette Jones, Tina Thomas (Donnell Thomas), Carol Green, Kimberly Robinson and Monica Robinson. He leaves behind his brother James Garner, his sisters Mardel Coles, Jo Lynn Coles and Maureen Turner. Richard also leaves a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024, 2:00pm at the Linwood Chapel. Interment Twelve Gates. Visitation will be from 1pm-3pm at the chapel. Services conducted by Lawrence A.
