Mr. Raymond Watkins

Obituary Raymond Delaney Watkins was born October 5, 1963 in Kansas City, Missouri to the union of Lee Ed Watkins, Sr. and Mildred Lawrence Watkins. Raymond was the twelfth child of twelve sisters and brothers. Raymond was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri School District where he attended Sanford B. Ladd Elementary, Central Junior and Central Senior High School, graduating in the alumni class of 1982. At an early age, Raymond worked retail at Nordstrom and Saks-Fifth Avenue Department stores. He was a great salesman because of his great “people skills” and his gift of making people feel welcome and special. Raymond was later hired at Hallmark Cards where he worked for over 5 years. He was eventually hired at GEHA in Lee’s Summit, Mo. as a Material Handler/Courier, then was promoted to Maintenance Technician. He worked at GEHA until the Lord called him home. Raymond gave his life to Christ, at an early age. As a child, he attended Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Palestine Missionary Baptist Church of Jesus Christ where Rev. Earl Abel was Pastor. Raymond touched many lives along the way. He was loved by many. He was very well known throughout the community. His kindness, giving spirit, humor and his love for his family were his greatest strengths. Raymond loved sports. He made sure that he tuned in to ESPN to keep abreast of what was happening throughout the sports world. He loved his home team, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. He always critiqued the coaches and the players and often expressed his opinions on social media or by reaching out to family and friends. Raymond had a deep love for his family. There was a special love for his children, stepchildren and grandchildren. He bragged about them all the time. He let the world know how proud he was of them. Raymond’s focus, passion, and determination was a priority to ensure that his children and grandchildren receive a great life. Raymond was a wonderful son, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was very supportive of his family and took pride in attending family functions. He always kept in touch with loved ones to catch up on lost time, to check on their well-being, or to lend a helping hand. It seems that Raymond was at many places at the same time, as he was always touching lives. He had an everlasting effect on everyone he met. He could strike up a conversation with anybody. Raymond had a love for fashion. He kept up with all the styles and trends. He always looked good, from sportswear, casualwear to dress wear! He loved smelling good and loved expensive colognes. Raymond had a passion for nice cars. He loved driving his Acura and took great pride in keeping it clean and detailed. Raymond loved working with children. He was a big supporter and mentor of the Giants, a little league baseball, football, and basketball team, on which Marquis was a player. He took special pride in that and always bragged about what a “beast” Marquis was on the field. God called Raymond home on March 9, 2022. His father, Lee Ed Watkins, Sr., Mother, Mildred Lawrence Watkins, his stepdaughter, Kenisha Turner; brothers, Daniel Lucky Watkins, Eugene Kelly Watkins, Bill Dean Watkins, Charles Edward Watkins, and oldest sister, Dorothy Mae Rogers preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memories, one son, Raymontey Denzel McNeal, of Kansas City, Mo. and one daughter, Raylesha Monet Watkins, of Independence, Mo., two stepdaughters, Nakisha Turner, and Alicia Turner; two stepsons, Alonzo Graveley and Trivon Whitted, two grandsons, Marquis Turner and Tra’vion Remir Drallan Johnson, two granddaughters, Mariah Monet Stanton, and Londyon Lesha Stanton; one brother, Lee Ed Watkins, Jr.; five sisters, Ruthie M. Watkins, Betty J. Vaughn, Josephine Conaway, Barbara A. Bryant and Sheila R. Brock, all of Kansas City, MO; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, March 19, 2022, 2:00pm at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation 1pm-2pm at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A.
