Mr. Phillip Scott

Obituary Phillip Scott, 64, was the third child born to Myrtle Scott (Bailey) on January 6, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri. After a nearly three year well fought battle with cancer, he departed this life on February 13, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Reuben H. Bailey; his maternal grandparents, Rev. John and Nellie Scott; his sister, Sharon Scott, and his oldest brother Kenneth Scott. Phil accepted Christ at an early age at the Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. A.M. Hudson, Sr., and maintained his faith throughout the course of his life. He was educated in the Kansas City Public Schools system, where many lifelong friendships were formed. He was formerly employed at Truman Medical Center, Research Medical Center, and other local hospitals in their Environmental Services department. Before becoming ill, the job that he found most important and took great pride in was providing care for his beloved mother. Even after beginning chemo treatments, it was important for him to regain his strength so that he could resume his caregiver role until his health began to fail. He was an avid sports fan and loved to discuss players and their stats, especially those of his favorite team, The Kansas City Chiefs. He enjoyed listening to music and would take every opportunity to find a dance partner. Never meeting a stranger, Phil was known for always being mindful of spreading love to his family and friends with kind words and a smile. He never failed to show his love and support to friends and family during their times of grief, making sure he attended services for their loved ones until no longer able to do so. He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Myrtle Bailey of the home; his brother Rick Scott of Kansas City, MO; his niece, Shari Scott of Kansas City, MO; nephews, Kenneth Gray of Kansas City, MO, Jahdal Robinson (Lori), and Wali Bey (Micaela), both of Dallas, TX; great-nephews and nieces, De’Shaun Williams and Da’Maun Scott both of Kansas City, MO, Kiya Robinson, Jaliyah Scott, Jalisa Scott, Jamal Scott, and Mikael Scott, all of Dallas, TX; two maternal aunts, Patsy McGlothen of Kansas City, MO, and Shirley Johnson of Phoenix, AZ; as well as a host of cousins and lifelong friends. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023, 11:00am Morning Star Baptist Church. Interment Brooking Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church.
