Mrs. Oneita D. Walker

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Oneita Darnella Walker, beloved, wife, mother, and grandmother, who left us on May 21, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on July 18, 1951, in Kansas City, Missouri, Oneita Darnella Walker lived a life full of love, compassion, and dedication to her family and community. Her life was a testament to the strength and beauty of the human spirit. She was known for her unwavering love and support for her family, always putting their needs above her own. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. Oneita was adopted at the age of 2 by Corrine and Otis Hynson. Her adoptive parents provided a loving and caring environment for her to grow and learn to be the women she would become. One of her happiest moments recently was meeting her biological sister, Devon Austin, for the first time this past August. This was a joyful union that brought immense fulfillment and a deep sense of connection. Oneita confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Zion Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She was educated in the Kansas City Public School System, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1969. She also attended Kansas State University, leaving after two years to help her mom. After college, she began working as a secretary for the youth opportunity program, directed by The Social Action Committee, also known as SAC 20. It was here that she met her husband, Chester, and to this union, 3 children were born. It was also at SAC 20, that she shared her talents in clerical and financial matters for nearly 10 years. Oneita then began a long career as a financial analyst for Marion Laboratories where she worked for 22 years. In 1982, she became a member of Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Albert Colbert. She continued her service to the church under the leadership of Reverend Joseph Fletcher where she was a part of the Dance ministry, Trustee ministry, served as an instructor on the Usher Board, as a Sunday School teacher, and as a church financial clerk. Her legacy of service and compassion will be remembered by all those fortunate enough to cross her path. Oneita was an extremely intelligent women with many talents. Her dedication and hard work were evident in everything she did, leaving a lasting impact on those who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be remembered for her boundless love, her selfless spirit, and her unwavering dedication to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. Oneita leaves to cherish her memory her husband of nearly 50 years, Chester L. Walker; son, Chester Walker (Renita); daughters, Kassia Walker; and Kristin Walker; two bonus children whom she loved as her own, Pearl Harris (Bobby); and Troy Walker (Leslie); grandchildren, Quinn Dawson; Hunter Thurman; Noelle Walker; Jackson Walker; Rydell Harris; Kelsee Harris; Sydney Walker; Josephine Walker; and Nathan Johnson; one great-grandson, Keegan Harris; a host of other relatives; and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 31, 2024, (today) at 11:00 A.M. at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church 8640 Sni-A-Bar Road Kansas City, MO 64129. Interment: XII Gates Memorial Gardens.
