Ms. Ollie Gant

Ollie Mae Gant was born June 19, 1944, in McClarlin, Arkansas to Issac and Mary Gant. Out of nine girls and three boys she was the third from the last child. She was raised in Kansas City, Kansas area on the north end 6th and Everett. She attended Sumner High School and also attended college in Detroit, Michigan for Childhood Development and completed it. She was married to Tommy Jennings, out of that marriage two boys were born. Later in life, she married Sam Smart for time in her life. Ollie had children that she loved so much, no matter what her children were her life, from the oldest to the youngest: Melvin White Jr. (Nadza White), Jermone Turner (Alecia Turner), Delano Jennings, Tomi Jennings, Tyrone Jennings (Debbie Jennings), and the only girl, Angel Gant (Marcus Moore). She leaves them to mourn her death and also her little sister, Gearldine Gant. Ollie made sure she protected her as well. Ollie also leaves a host of grandchildren, great grands, nieces, nephews, adopted family, and her friends that loved her dearly. Ollie’s smile would light up any room and she would have you knowing the truth with humor afterwards, by the time you to have leave her. Knowing her love was unconditional and sincere. That smile of hers, she passed to her children and grandchildren. We smile bright! She had a blessing that we all enjoyed and that was love for cooking, she could throw down. She had a love for children of which led to being a Private Childcare Provider for 30-plus years, then later after retirement, she became a Foster Grandparent for Catholic Charities (12 years) for Douglas Elementary of which she enjoyed being back in her old school. She was also a Foster Parent and then Adoptive Parent for years. Ollie loved her family unconditionally and we knew that with no doubt. She also loved cooking for the homeless with every holiday and I mean any holiday even Presidents Day. She would cook for over 30 homeless people each time or more. She was a fighter, because she stayed a Warrior of God, and she knew He would do what He saw fit for her life. She attended Pleasant Green Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Jarvis Collier. Ollie worked in Pleasant Green School as a Teacher when it was under the leadership of Rev. David L. Gray for many years. Ollie lived a strong and meaningful life that touched so many that encountered her presence. Transitioning into the arms of God and her new home that awaited her in heaven on January 3, 2025 at the age of 80 years old, she left peacefully. We miss the laughter, the truth, and love she moist definitely gave. God wanted his daughter whether we were ready or not, to release her from all pain and to walk around in the Lord’s house with her Mommy and Daddy, Sisters, Brothers and a host of others. Funeral Services will be held on February 1, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Green Baptist Church, 340 David L. Gray Drive, KCKS 66101. Interment: Memorial Sunset Gardens.
