Mrs. Mylon (Winston) Mitchum

Obituary Mylon Winston Mitchum was born August 16, 1944, in Grady, Arkansas to the late Jessie Beatrice and Isaiah Winston. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, James E. Mitchum, Sr., one sister, Jessie Mae Jones, three brothers, Robert Winston, Hermon Winston and John Henry Johnson, her paternal grandfather, Tommy Winston and maternal grandparents, Hozie and Ned Williams. Mylon made her transition on July 6, 2022, at University Health (TMC-Lakewood). In 1960 Mylon was baptized in Grady, Ark. And was united with Pilgrim Rest AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Cole. She graduated from Grady High School in May 1963. She moved to Kansas City in June 1963. She was united in Holy Matrimony with James Mitchum, Sr. in 1969. To this union one son was born, James Mitchum, Jr. Mylon was a faithful member of Memorial Baptist Church under the leadership of the late, Rev. T.B. Baker. She was a founding and charter member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in 1988, later pastored by Rev. Jesse Frazier. She served as a lifelong member of the usher board and held the offices of President, instructor and secretary. She served terms as the Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School and was Sunday School secretary. She sang in the ladies chorus, was the Mother's and Father’s Day Chairperson. She was a board member of the Scholarship committee and a member of the Bereavement Ministry. She often attended the Transforming Lives, Women’s Bible Study. She was employed by 1-Hour Martinizing and by Arrow Fabricare Services for 20 years. Mylon was the secretary of the Well-Seasoned Seniors Club, a member of Brush Creek Community Center, a member of Vineyard Neighborhood Association and a volunteer at Harvesters. She was loved for her outgoing personality and wonderful sense of humor. She has taken her final bow and stood for the last curtain call. Mylon leaves to keep her memory alive, her loving children, Lillie Mitchum and James Mitchum, Jr. One sister, Ora Williams, one aunt, Ethel Mae Williams, spiritual adopted son, Dexter Starr (Roberta), all of Kansas City, Mo. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, Ebenezer Church family and special friend, Sylvia Verser. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7 Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 16, 2022, 11:00am at Ebenezer MBC.
