Life’s Reflections of Mozell C. Jacobs With profound love and reverence, we celebrate the life of our beloved Mozell Carter Jacobs. A cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, accepted her wings from her heavenly Father on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the extraordinary age of 92. A blessed lifespan of nearly a century, Mozell lived a long and productive life which touched so many lives through her existence. Family and friends were blessed because she left an indescribable imprint on their lives. The Beginning of Her Journey Mozell entered the world shortly after her twin brother, Odell “Bro” Carter Sr., on Friday, January 26, 1934, in Sarepta, Louisiana. Delivered by her grandmother (Liza Rawls Tidwell Carter Chapman, the community’s local midwife) she was the sixth of ten children born to Christopher Columbus “Bud” Carter, Sr. and Angie Harris Carter, affectionately known as Papa and Mother Angie. Family history noted her parents were a team of hard workers who were home and landowners and entrepreneurs who owned a grocery store and pulpwood business. Mozell would often recount stories of working with Mother Angie - stocking, selling produce, and naturally her stories included her version of counting the money. The Journey Continues Mozell’s early academic education began in a two-room schoolhouse in the Hopewell community and continued through the eighth grade. She did not have the option of going to high school locally because there was not a high school for African Americans. She would have had to go away from home to attend, very similar to modern day going to college. She began doing housework outside of the home and bringing her meager earnings to her mother. A few years later, her Cousin Cora introduced her to Nathanger “Nay.” They married and lived in Sarepta, Louisiana, had their first child, Natha and later moved to Kansas City. Now, that’s another story…but, God had a plan. Her Spiritual Journey Mozell was baptized at an early age and was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. Initially when she moved to Kansas City, she attended and joined Progressive Baptist Church with her great-aunt, Ruby McCree. In the year 1957, she united with Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church at 3100 E 31st St, Kansas City, MO. Over the span of 69 plus years, Mozell was involved in the Junior Mission, Kitchen Committee, Hostess Committee, the Choir and Recruitment Ministry. Although she wasn’t officially on the Mother Board, she was considered an “Associate.” Mozell loved her some “Metropolitan” and adored her other family, the Hartsfields. A Passion for Learning and Hard-Work Mozell’s limited formal education never diminished her desire to learn. She attended night school and chose to pursue cosmetology—what was often called, in old-school terms, “doing hair.” She attended Aline Jefferson House of Beauty part-time while working various jobs, including waitressing, housekeeping, babysitting and maintaining her household. She and Nay had three more children, Alma, Nathanger Jr, and Steven. Together, she and Nay sacrificed and made the decision for her to attend cosmetology school full-time. She completed the program, passed the board exams, and became a licensed cosmetologist. One of her favorite sayings, “I went to school in Louisiana, but I got educated in Kansas City. Fulfilling the Journey Mozell excelled in her career as a beautician, which she loved. While she worked at various locations in Kansas City, her dream was to operate her beauty shop in her home and this she achieved. She was successful in her craft, but mostly she loved her customers. While caring for their hair needs, she offered advice, counseled, encouraged, and was just plain-old compassionate. Mozell always put her family first. She was loved for her devotion to her husband, children, grandchildren who called “GiGi”, parents, siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. She made her home open to anyone who was in need and was always calling on folks she knew to help find employment for them. She seemed to know when those around her needed a kind touch. She had a keen intuition about people and was the first to give someone a lift by pointing out their best attributes. Many of her kin migrated from Louisiana to Kansas City due to her. She loved family, friends and others, often telling them, “I love you”. Mozell gave of herself and her resources. She lived “if I can help somebody…” The Journey Ends Since 2021, Mozell resided at Addington Place of Lee’s Summit in the Memory Care Unit where she was cared for and loved. Early Monday morning, July 20, 2026, Mozell peacefully exited this world and the Lord received her. Waiting for Mozell in glory is her husband, Nathanger Jacobs, Sr; grandsons, Jeremy and Brian Jacobs; parents, Christopher and Angie Carter; siblings, Christopher “Son” Carter, Jr., Lee Carter, Andy Carter, Odell “Bro” Carter, Sr, - her twin, Annie C. McLin, Joe Carter, and Drucella “Cella” Williams. She is survived by her children: Natha Porter (Markel), Alma Rollison (Marvin), Nathanger Jacobs, Jr. (Lola) and Steven Jacobs (Marilyn); grandchildren: Lisa Williams (Derrick), Timothy Gumby, Janai Howard (Quinton), Myric Rollison, Sr. (Maria), Nathan Jacobs, Stephanie Jacobs, Cortney Jacobs, Whitney Jacobs, and Justin Jacobs; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters: Angie McKinney and Myra Burns; sisters-in-law: Hattie Lucy Carter, Rosie Carter, Wilma Beason (Clark) and Hattie Lee; godchildren: Lawrence and Raeshel Crawford; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, fellow residents and caretakers of Addington Place of Lee’s Summit. Funeral services Saturday, August 1,2026 at 10:00am at Metropoloitan Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Mount Moriah Cemetery. Visitation 9:00am-10:00am at the church..
