MOTHER AUGUSTA PAYNE

Obituary Augusta lola Payne (Sipho), was born August 23rd, 1940 in Carrolton, Mississippi. She was the second oldest child out of twelve children born to the union of C.H. Sipho and Augusta Ava Sipho (Shelton). She was proceeded in death by both her parents and 7 siblings, Wilma Lee, John Sipho (whose former name was Tyree. But because he so disliked his name, that when his baby brother John Henry passed, he asked his parent could he assume his younger brother John's name), Robert Sipho, Maxine Sipho, Ernest Sipho, Anita Sipho and John Henry who died as a child. She has four surviving sibling--Helen White of Virginia, Margaritre Gillespie, Viola Norwood and Alex Sipho. Augusta was a great woman of great faith. She accepted the lord early in her life. She attended and graduated from Hayti High School. Afterward, she was insistent upon moving away from the area to better her life. Her father did not want her to go, but he gave her money just in case she needed to come back home, but she told him she was not coming back she believed she would make it. Based on her faith and trust in God, she moved by herself to Columbia, Missouri where she would later meet her husband to be Delroy Payne Sr. She was able to room with a lady who lived up the street from Delroy, and she studied nursing and worked at Ellis Fischel Cancer Hospital for a few years. She later married Delroy and moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she was very instrumental in getting the rest of her family moved to Kansas City from the south. She and her husband would provide room and support for each of her sisters and brothers as they moved to Kansas city. She continued to support each of them as they began working, and were able to move out and live on their own. She survived her late husband Delroy Payne Sr by almost 18 years. She was married to him on February 3rd, 1963 and remain married until the day of his passing on February 13th, 2003. They were married forty years. Through their union they had 4 children. One daughter Ocie Melissandra Payne, two surviving sons Shelby Lavernon Payne (Lisa) and his children April Payne, Elizabeth Payne and Little Shelby "Snuggles" Payne, and the second son Delroy Fitzgerald Payne II and his children Delroy Lewis Payne III, Maxwell Chandler Payne, and Jordan Asher Payne, all who still reside in Kansas City, Missouri Proper. Augusta laid to rest one son, Joseph Eugene Payne, whose his children are Kymille Hill (Delano), Kayla Payne, and Aminah Payne. Upon his passing Delroy adopted Joseph's son Jordan Payne. She accepted the Lord at an early age in life, and through many trials and tribulations she learned to depend and trust in God. She was a member of the Barker Temple COGIC (and Barker Memorial Cathedral of Praise COGIC) and served on the Usher Board, the Mother's Board, President of the Benevolence Committee for the Mother's Board and she was an Evangelist, and Prayer Counselor. She loved reading her bible and for many years she taught Sunday School. Often times, more than less, you would see her if not at church, at home tending to her family and studying her bible. She was a very holy woman of God. She raised her children in the fear and love of the Lord. She leaves behind to cherish her memories: her children, a host of grand children, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends and of course, the household of faith. Funeral Services were held on Friday, February 5th at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Linwood Chapel. Interment Mount Moriah.
