Mother Mary E. Harris

Obituary Mother Mary Ellen Harris 88, was born July 17, 1933 in Columbia, Mo to Isaac and Cecile (Branham) Harris who both preceded her in death. She was the second of five children. All siblings preceded her to glory; two Sisters Georgia L Ellis, Myrtle M Harris; two Brothers Leroy Harris and Isaac G Harris Jr. Her adopted sisters Sarah Hayes, Mother Margaret Richardson, Sandra Richardson, and niece Cecilia Renee Harris also preceded her in death She graduated from Lincoln High school in Kansas City, Mo. After high school she attended local community college taking clerical courses. Shortly after Mother Harris gained employment because she wanted to help her parents out. She worked as an employee of the Government of the United States of America, In 1997 after 30 years of service she retired from the Social Security Administration where she received numerous awards and accolades. After her retirement she “got tired of sitting at home” and started a seasonal job at H&R Block doing taxes. She worked there until she was unable to commute. Mother Harris received Christ at an early age was baptized with the Holy Ghost. Mother Mary Harris was a faithful worker and true servant of the Lord, she sang in the choir, was a “Bad Alto “and could always carry her note. She was one of the original member of the Emanuel Jubilee Singers traveling from state to state spreading the goodness of the Lord. She served as Church Secretary at Greater Holy Temple COGIC where she was once a member and Executive Secretary of Central Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Missouri under the leadership of Bishop C.N Rucker. Mother Harris also served at Shiloh Institutional Church of God In Christ under leadership of Superintendent Daniel Roberson and Superintendent Brian McLeod as Church Secretary; member of the Praise& Worship team, Trustee, Pastor's Aid and Mother's Boards; Sunday School and YPWW teacher; childcare aide at Shiloh Learning Center and filled in wherever she saw the need. She was a member at Shiloh Institutional until the time of her demise. Although she never married nor birthed any children she did have a “Child”, her namesake, Marilyn Elaine Harris she had the pleasure of naming Marilyn after herself, and she helped raise her nephew Isaac Ellis as her own in the home with her. She was a surrogate Mother to many and always pouring into others. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021, 11:00am at Greater Holy Temple COGIC. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church.
