Mother Doris Lee Dixon

In Loving Memory Doris Lee was born May 5, 1941, in East Moline, Illinois to Jerome and Leona Southers. She was the second of eight children. The family later moved and settled in Des Moines, IA. Doris Lee accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior early in her youth while attending Corinthian Baptist Church in Des Moines, IA. As a member of Corinthian, Doris Lee was active in the Red Circle Girls, youth choir, and many other organizations. Doris continued her journey in faith in various churches until permanently settling in Kansas City, MO. Doris Lee’s final church home was Calvary Chapel Church of God in Christ, where she spent many years of service. Doris Lee’s service included the Mothers Board, A Door Greeter and Hospitality for Seniors. Doris was educated in the Des Moines, Iowa Public School system, graduating from North High school in 1959. After completing high school, she served as an Elevator Operator in Downtown Des Moines, IA. She later attended Des Moines school of Practical Nursing where she received certification as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent 50+ years working in various hospitals. After 27 years of service at Research Medical Center in Kansas City MO, she retired from nursing in 2002. After retirement, Doris continued her love of helping by being an active participant in all seven of her grandchildren’s lives. During her union with Richard Jackson, she was blessed with two children, Anita Jackson Ricks, and Jerome Jackson. Doris also raised Richard’s eldest daughter, Rosita Jackson Enos. She later married Lawrence W. Dixon and was blessed with her 3rd child Leona Dixon. Doris adored time with family and friends, listening to gospel music and golden oldies and TALKING. She made frequent trips to Iowa to spend time with her siblings creating cherished memories. Doris Lee was called home at the age of 82 on October 17, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Preceding her in death were her parents, Jerome, and Leona Southers; her brother, Reginald Southers; and her sister, Norma Bragg. She leaves to cherish her memories: Two daughters, Anita Jackson Ricks of Raytown, MO, and Leona Dixon of Lee’s Summit, MO; son, Jerome Jackon of Kansas City, MO. She also leaves Six siblings: Jo Ann Jones of Ankeny, IA; Quincy Southers of Des Moines IA; Shirley Johnson of West Des Moines, IA; Joyce Carter of Rock Island, Ill; Michael Southers of Bowie, MD; and Harriett Beasley of Des Moines, IA.; as well as seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 4, 2023, 11am at Calvary Chapel COGIC. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
