Ms. Mildred E. Smith

Obituary Mildred E. Smith was born on December 2, 1925 to George M. and Ollie L. Fuller in Van Buren, Arkansas. Her parents and a sister, Margaret prececed her in death. Mildred was educated in the Van Buren public schools snd was a graduate of Douglas High School in the class of 1942. The family relocated from Arkansas to Kansas City, Missouri in 1942. Mildred attended Madam CJ Walker’s Beauty College, after graduating she met Clarence Morton in Kansas City but Clarence was stationed in the military in Cheyenne, Wyoming where they traveled back to Cheyenne and got married in 1944. From this union 5 children were born, her daughter, Barbara Warren preceded her in death. Mildred worked at Deluxe BBQ where she met her soon to be husband Drew Smith Jr and they were married in 1962 and to this union 2 children were born. They remained married for 36 years until Drew’s death in 1998. Mildred was raised in church all her life, but received salvation in 1976 under the late Rev. Hubert Lambert ,Sr .,at Faith Mission COGIC. Mildred worked various jobs from being a school cafeteria worker, working at the State home for boys, beauty salons, and nursing facilities until she retired in 1982. Mildred loved to travel with her church and work in the ministry where she served at Deeper Life Christian Ministries for 20 years under the leadership of her son, Pastor E.C. Morton until her health began to fail, she loved the Lord and begin to visit at the Canaan Worship Center and under the leadership of Bishop Tony D. Cobbins until she could no longer attend but she watched via the social media platforms. Mildred is survived by her sons E.C. Morton (Inez), Jimmie Morton, George Morton (Lanita), Ronald Morton (Vonda), and Michael Smith (Stephanie); her daughter Dyana McGee; her 16 Grandchildren and a host of Great and Great-Great Grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great niece and nephew. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021, 11:00am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the chapel.
