Mrs. Mildred (Davis) Griddine

Obituary Mildred Griddine, 88, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital on January 6, 2022. Mildred was born October 1, 1933, in Old Hickory Tennessee to the union of Willie Mae Davis and Harry Lee Davis Sr.. Mildred and her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1942 where she remained until her death. She married William H. Griddine and they had six children. Mildred attended RT Coles High School. She was employed as a CNA for 40 years working at the old General Hospital for 30 years and then at the Swope Ridge Nursing home where she worked up until retirement. She was a kind, generous spirit with a big heart and even though she lived a modest life, she would give you her last piece of bread if she knew you were hungry. She loved to cook Thanksgiving dinner for her large family. She was known for her 7-Up Pound Cake and Sweet Potato Pie recipes that always included a “pinch of this” or a “pinch of that”. She was the matriarch of her family and a natural caregiver. Even at an early age she took care of her younger brothers. Mildred raised her six children in addition to several of her grandchildren and great grandchildren up until her passing. She was loved by many and will remain in our hearts forever. Mildred was preceded in death by husband William Griddine, son Rodney Griddine, parents Harry L. Davis Sr. and Willie Mae Davis, brothers Joseph Davis, Thomas Davis, Harry L. Davis Jr., Kamal Karriem Sr. and Willie Davis. Here recently the passing of daughter Debra Griddine and granddaughter Tiffany Griddine. She is survived by her daughters Teresa Fredieu (Donald) of Houston, TX; LaFrance Griddine-Clark of Daytona Beach, FL; Michelle Griddine of Kansas City, MO; son Craig Griddine (Angie) of Kansas City, KS; three brothers Paul Davis (Media) of Kent, WA; Robert Davis of Warrenton, MO; Demetrius Davis Sr. (Samzie) of Mira Loma, CA; 17 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Mildred leaves behind a legacy to cherish her memory and love forever. Visitation will be held Monday, January 17, 2022, 4pm-6pm at the chapel.
