Mr. Michael Phillips

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Michael A. Phillips, who peacefully departed this life at his home on July 8, 2025. Michael was born on February 5, 1959, in Kansas City, Missouri, to the late Voyage and Irene Phillips. He was raised in Kansas City, where he graduated from Southeast High School, Class of 1977. A gifted athlete with a passion for football, Michael played collegiate football at William Jewell College. His talent and dedication earned him the opportunity to attend the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp, allowing him to pursue his lifelong dream of playing professional football until an injury brought his playing days to an end. Following his athletic career, Michael built a successful life in manufacturing, dedicating many years of faithful service to Graham Packaging and Procter & Gamble until his retirement. While Michael enjoyed football and took pride in his work, nothing meant more to him than his family. He was a devoted husband, loving uncle, caring grandfather, and loyal friend. His quiet strength, warm heart, wisdom, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Michael leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Tanya Phillips; his last surviving sibling, Myrtle Phillips Burton; his special nieces, Erica Burton and Robynn Burton-Downs Kendrick; his special great-nieces, Charlesia Gant and Erione Gant; his cherished grandchildren, Chad Cain Jr., Amiyah Cain, Aya Cain, and Calise Cain; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, fraternity brothers, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Voyage and Irene Phillips; his brothers, Voyage W. Phillips, Laforrest Phillips, and Van Phillips; and his beloved son, Chad Cain. Michael’s life was one of perseverance, dedication, and unconditional love. His legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he touched, the memories he created, and the love he shared so freely. “Well done, good and faithful servant.” – Matthew 25:23 Forever loved.
