Mr. Michael P. Bailey, Sr.

Michael Bailey Sr., born in Kansas City, Kansas, on April 4, 1955, peacefully departed this life on May 11th, 2025. His life was a testament to love, perseverance, and dedication—values he embodied every day. Faith, family, and friends were the foundations of Michael’s early life. From a young age, he cultivated a deep relationship with Jesus, attending Bethel Church where he nurtured his love for singing and musicianship. His faith and musical talents became an integral part of his journey, guiding him through life's challenges and joys. Growing up in the vibrant Parkwood neighborhood, Michael's childhood was filled with the camaraderie of family and friends. He attended Northeast Middle School and graduated from Sumner High School in 1973, where he was a proud and talented stalwart on the basketball team for the Sumner Spartans. His athleticism and spirit earned him a full scholarship to the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where his life took a transformative turn. While at UMSL, Michael blossomed both personally and romantically, laying the foundation for the many accomplishments that followed. During this time, Michael was blessed with his first daughter, Patrice Carroll. Love blossomed between him and Linda Mitchell, his high school sweetheart, leading him to forgo his college scholarship and start a family. Michael and Linda exchanged vows in January of 74, embarking on a journey of love and fatherhood. They were blessed with two children, Michael Bailey Jr. and Shonda Bailey, each of his children brought immense joy to his life. In 1980, Michael made a pivotal decision to pursue a career in the electrical field. He began an IBEW apprenticeship, demonstrating his commitment to building a future for his family through hard work and determination. Following his divorce from Linda, Michael found love again in Roselyn Jones of Kansas City, Kansas. Though they did not have children together, Michael embraced his role as a stepfather to Gayle, Donna, and Kathy Jones, showering them with love and kindness. In 1985, Michael began his career with the skilled trades team at the Fairfax GM Plant, where he took great pride in becoming a dedicated member of the UAW union. Over the course of his 35-year tenure, he built lasting friendships and shared meaningful fellowship with countless colleagues, earning the respect and affection of many along the way. Beyond his career, Michael had a lifelong passion for music. From singing in school talent shows to performing at local venues, his love for singing was a core part of his life. In the 1990s, he formed the musical band Krazar, collaborating with producer Crayge Lindsay to release their debut CD, "On a Wing and a Prayer." (available on Spotify) His musical talents and exuberance touched many lives and will be fondly remembered. Michael was preceded in death by his beloved brothers, James C. Bailey Jr. and Marvin L. Bailey. He leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through his children, Patrice Carroll; Michael Bailey Jr.; and Shonda Bailey. He was a proud grandfather to Monnie; Israel; Kaleb; and Harper Bailey; and a cherished stepfather to Gayle; Donna; and Kathy Jones. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Marianne Wright; Sheila Bailey; and Michele Bailey; and a host of other family members who will continue to honor his memory. His life remains a beacon of dedication, love, and passion, an inspiration to all who knew him.
