Mayola Perkins

Obituary Mayola Thelma (Hill) Perkins was born on October 18, 1928, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma to Parents, James and Thelma Hill. Mayola departed this life on March 25, 2018. She was preceded in death by both parents, her Husband, Sylvester Perkins, a Son, Albert Sutton, Grandson, Donald Sutton, Brother, Jim Hill, sister, Emma L. Hill, Nieces, Sharon Marshall and Stephanie Hill, and a sister-in-law, Jerry Hill. Mayola received her education in Oklahoma. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she met Sylvester Perkins. They were married on March 14, 1954, and to this union one child was born, Mary Louise Perkins. Mayola accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Mount Vernon Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor, Reverend O.S. Jones. Later she joined Mount Sinai Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor White. At the time of her passing, she belonged to Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Reverend Thomas Shelton. Mayola began her employment at Pick Wick Hotel at 10th and McGee from 1951 to 1969 until they went out of business. She was later employed with the Holiday Inn from 1970 to 1992, until the time of retirement. She then went to work for the Goodwill Industry, government operated and owned from 1993 until 2007, making the decision to resign due to health reasons. Mayola enjoyed spending her free time with her family, watching court TV shows, sports, especially the Oklahoma Sooners, Kansas City Chiefs, and the Kansas City Royals. Her most enjoyment came when she was at the casinos. Her family often referred to her as the, “Sweet Potato Pie Queen”, something they will truly miss eating of hers. Mayola T. Perkins leaves to cherish her memories, a Daughter, Mary Perkins-Norman (Lemuel (Stu)); a very special niece raised as her Daughter, LuCretia Hill all of Kansas City, Missouri; Step-son, Ronnie Perkins (Marva) of San Diego, California; A Niece, Lisa Williams (Peter) of Virginia; Seventeen grandchildren; Twenty-five great-grandchildren; Seven great-great- grandchildren; and a host of other Relatives and Family Friends. Funeral Service for Mrs. Mayola Perkins will be held Friday, April 6, 10:00 a.m. at the Watkins Heritage Chapel, 4000 Emanuel Cleaver II Blvd. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 .m. at the Heritage Chapel.
