Obituary Fearless advocate for Family, Our Heavy Weight Champion New Year’s Day 1980 in Kansas City Kansas, Maurice made his entrance into the world. He transitioned Wednesday September 22, 2021. He was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas school system. After high school, Maurice entered Job Corps; he completed the HBI certification program. He held several jobs most of which he applied his God-given talent to fix absolutely anything. He was a master at figuring out how things worked. He was employed by the Internal Revenue Service as a maintenance engineer. He was more than just a good man, he was hard-working, dependable and he completed every task with excellence. He endured the hard knocks of life; he refused to believe the naysayers. He was determined to make something out of his life, and he did. As a young man, Maurice married Kimberly Winfield, she preceded him in death. To this union two children were born, his namesake Maurice Jr. and K’Mayah Marveah. Even as a young father, Maurice was all about family. Maurice would help anybody especially family and friends. If he received a call in the middle of the night, he’d be out the door to change a tire, give a jump or a ride. He always checked on the ones he loved. Maurice valued friendship and he was a fearless advocate for his family. He never boasted or tried to be anything other than the wonderful man he was. He was certainly not afraid of a good argument, but truth is, when he engaged in a heated discussion it was about something that mattered. Though he could debate with the best, he knew when, where and how to end the discussion and simply walk away. Maurice was a member of Christian Tabernacle Church of God in Christ where he served on the security team, usher board and drove the church van. Maurice was saved and he loved the Lord. When he arrived at church, he was always dressed sharp and ready to hear the word of God. He listened intensely to the preached word. At church and in his community, Maurice was observant, he listened to what people said and watched what they did. There was nothing fake about him, he was a genuine man. While working as a building engineer at the Jackson County Court house, he met his lovely wife Tasha Renee and that’s where their love story began. They soon welcomed a son, Mylon Christopher. Maurice and Tasha were inseparable, together they built a home and a strong family bond. Maurice loved him some Tasha. He honored God and led his home with respect and love. He made sure his family had what they needed. He took time to build a strong relationship with his children. He loved his sons, he taught them the value of hard work. He adored his one and only daughter. His life’s example demonstrated how a father should protect, love and provide for his family. He worked hard at every job, but he worked hardest to build a secure future for his wife and children. One of his life goals was to buy his family a home… and he did! Maurice was a strong man. Even during illness, Maurice strength was evident. He was strong to the last minute. The nurses nicknamed him Baby Hulk. Everything about his journey was a testimony to the power of God. He loved his children, he loved his wife, he loved his family and he loved God. In his final moments, with his eyes open – looking lovingly at his wife - he lifted his hands in praise to God. He fought a good fight and he WON!!!!!! We will miss him immensely. He was then and will forever remain our Heavy Weight Champion. Standing ready to carry his legacy: his devoted wife, Tasha Renee Cooper, his first-born son Maurice Jr, his adorable daughter K’Mayah, and his baby boy, Mylon; his mother, Deborah and step-father Hubert Hawthorne; his father Valentino Cooper; eight brothers, Jamie, Valentino (Natasha), Aaron (Vuntaya), Benyamin, Hubert, Solomon, Ezekiel, Abraham; four sisters Ada, Aaliyah, Ashley and his oldest sister De’borah who proceeded him in death; Two Fathers-in-Law, Kim McKenzey; Charles Hooker (Teresa); Two Mothers-in-Law, Ms. Cheryl Newton and Rhonda Hill: one Brother-in-Law, Elder Christopher Hooker; his Goddaughter Jaise Russaw along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, several bonus aunts, sisters, brothers and five American Bully dogs. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, 12:00pm at Christian Tabernacle. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:30am-12:00pm at the church.
