Ms. Mattie L. Harris

Mattie Lee Harris, 97, was born on January 15, 1927 as the only child to the union of the Levi Colvin and Ozema Hamner in Northport, Alabama. Her husband Rayford Harris Jr., her parents, Ella Mae Wilder (Aunt), Sam J. Hamber (Uncle) and Arlue “Susie” White (Cousin) preceded her in death. Mattie moved to Kansas City, MO. in 1942, graduating from Lincoln High School. She met Rayford Harris, Jr. in 1963 at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. They were united in marriage by the late Rev. E. H. Branch. No children were born to this union. Mattie was member of Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and ushered for Usher Board #3 for 35 years. Mattie worked and retired as a Process Inspector from Western Electric in Lee’s Summit, MO. Mattie was an enthusiast for bowling. She bowled and traveled to several locations, which included many states. During later years, she bowled with the Senior League at Premiere Bowling Alley in Kansas City, MO. She was an avid fan of sports, especially Tennis. She was also a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, in which she gave them a “piece of her mind” when they lost any games and swore, she’d never look at them again (until the next game). Mattie watched television consistently and her favorite shows were the Young and the Restless and Judge Judy. She also enjoyed going to the casino with her husband and swore she wasn’t going back (until the next week). She departed this life on Saturday March 7,, 2024. Grandchildren; Kimberly Strickland, Odessa, MO., Melanie Harris, Lee’s Summit, MO., LaBrika McDonald, Dallas, TX., Shaunequa Frimpong (Thomas), Independence, MO., Kelea Goodloe, Kansas City, MO.; Eight great-grandchildren; Sister-in-laws: Rozelia Harris and Juanita Gibson, Kansas City, MO., Cousins; Jannifer White, Kansas City, MO., Carol Blanton, Kansas City, MO., Debra Higgs, Kansas City, MO., Venice White, Kansas City, MO.; Loved Ones; Gladys Witherspoon and Mary Cooper. Also, the love of many relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024, 11:00am Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation from 10:00am-11:00am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences may be shared on our website.
