Ms. Mary J. Crudup

Obituary Mary Joyce Crudup, was born on February 15, 1952 to the union of Robert Lee Richmond, Sr. and Clara Mae Mallett in Shreveport, Louisiana. Her parents, one sister, Arma Jean Richmond and son, Leon Darnell Crudup all preceded her in death. Mary moved to the Kansas City area as a child with her family. She was educated in the Kansas City Missouri Public Schools and was a graduate of Southeast High School.. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age and united with the Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. B. Poe, She was a member of the Usher Ministry and sang in the Choir. She later united with the Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Kim. L. Gladney. She was united in marriage to Leon D. Crudup, Sr., he also preceded her in death. Mary was a gifted Chef and was known for cooking and preparing some of the most fabulous meals. She worked in various restaurants throughout the city until she decided to pursue her business as a caterer. She was the owner of Mary J's Kitchen. She loved to cook for her family and friends. She spent countless hours cooking for all types of events until her chronic health issues slowed her down. But every now and then you still could find her with a pot in her hand and something baking. She will be forever remembered for her big heart, loving smile, generosity and cooking. She departed this life on Sunday, June 6, 2021 at her home. She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Jevon Crudup, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Marie E. Jones, Kansas City, MO; four sisters, Shirley A. Hensley, Jeanette Marie Kelly, Shreveport, LA, Gloria J. Jones and Arlene Hubert (Bruce), Kansas City, MO; a host grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021, 11:00am Mt. Calvary COGIC. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
