Ms. Marchita Acklin

Obituary Marchita Maurine Swopes-Acklin was born in Kansas City, Missouri, November 14, 1955, to the parents of Loretta Warfield-Swopes and Phaon Swopes Sr, both parents and one brother Anthony Swopes preceded her in death. Marchita was educated in the Kansas City, MO Catholic School System, where she attended St. Louis Catholic Elementary School, she attended one year at Lillis High School and later transferred to Southeast High School where she continued her academic education; In her senior year she also attended the Kansas City Area Vocational Technical School (Vo-Tech) to pursue her desire in the trade of Cosmetology which was her passion. Upon graduating from Southeast Class of 1975, she later received her licensing in Cosmetology in 1976. Later, she added to her education by receiving her certificate in pharmacology while she was employed in the pharmacy at CVS. During her working career she was employed with Hallmark Cards in the Finishing and Graphics department, where she retired after 23+ years. Later following her employment with Hallmark, she was employed by CVS Pharmacy and Prescription Solutions. In 1980 Marchita married Calvin Acklin Sr., from that union one son was born, that marriage was later dissolved. She later gave birth to her 2nd son. Marchita loved spending time with all her family, she was always the life of the party at any family gathering or event. Marchita loved to have fun, and her loud hearty laughter was always a joy to hear. She adored her grandchildren and was always doing something for them and showering them with gifts, she loved spending time with them. She was a die-hard KC Chiefs fan; you could hear her yelling all over Kansas City during a Chiefs game in support of her favorite team. Marchita leaves to cherish her memory 2 sons Calvin Acklin II, and Dewayne Skannal (both of Kansas City, MO); 1 grandson DeWayne Skannal Jr., 2 granddaughters Kaelyn Acklin, Demi Skannal; brothers Phaon Swopes Jr. (Denise), Vincent Swopes; sisters Barbara Swopes-Williams, Yvonne Woodley (Norman), Maraion Douglas, Portia Jones (James), Sherry Hicks, Loretta Bowler; 2 uncles, 4 aunts, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives & friends. Marchita Acklin, funeral service will be held Friday, July 15, 2022, 2:00pm at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Private Disposition. Visitation will be from 1pm-2pm at the chapel.
