Ms. Madeline Walker

Madeline Walker went home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2024, at a beautiful age of 86. She was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri to the late Mr. Richard Lee Crowbarker and the late Mrs. Mary Alberta Crowbarker(James). Madeline was preceded in death by: her husband Mr. Henry J. Walker Sr, her brothers John H.Crowbarker, Willie H.Crowbarker, Melvin E.Crowbarker; sisters, Hattie Weston, Viola Norman, Novella Crowbarker, and a dear sister in Christ Mrs. Dorothy Ames She was truly blessed by the Lord to bring up and nurture 7 children at a very young age two of which preceded her in death Henry James Walker Jr. and Larry Eugene Walker. Madeline accepted Christ at a very young age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Wichita, KS. under the pastorship of C. Albert Henson. Her father’s work as a Bricklayer required them to move constantly. As they later returned back to Kansas City in the early 60’s, mother found another church home Canaan Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Robert B. Poe. Mother had a beautiful alto voice, which she used to the glory of God in the Inspirational choir and was later called the Voices. Mother’s attendance at Canaan had stopped at some point, but she returned back in 1985 under the pastorship of Tony D. Cobbins, (Canaan Worship Center). Mother enjoyed fellowship with The Golden Saints, (a group for those 60 and older) and singing with the Golden Angels Mother completed the 10th grade at Dunbar school in Wichita, KS., she united in marriage October 1954 to Mr. Henry Walker. As an amazing young wife and mother, she took care of her family and home effortlessly. She worked outside the home at the Trail House and Wish Bone on the Plaza for a limited time to help provide for her family, as times were hard in the late 60’s and early 70’s. She continued to be a housewife throughout our growing up years, then took on a job at B&G maintenance. She later pursued after her GED in 1998, until health related issues started to take precedence in her life at the age of 65. Mother was afraid she was departing this life when she was 60 years old because of her health, and all she could say was that she wasn’t ready to leave her children, and that she wanted to live to see 70. The Lord was merciful and gave her 16 more years! Not only that, but she was also blessed to be here to see the last of her children celebrate their 60th birthday! Our mother gave her best to all of her children, she sacrificed for us without complaint, she kept us together during rough times. Her children respected her authority. We did not receive too many sat down teachings from her, but we observed what she did, and learned! We learned how to be parents and survivors by watching her. She encouraged us to receive Christ, her love was demonstrated by her actions. Mother never met a stranger, she was neighborly, giving, loved children, she was hospitable, she loved recipes and enjoyed cooking, she had a green thumb for both house and outside plants, and she had amazing strength as she battled the disadvantage that Dementia/Alzheimer posed in her life. Mrs. Madeline is survived by her sister; Tauheedah Hazziez (Alamin Hazziez), daughters; Charlene Nicholson(Jacob Gray), Doris Walker, Barbara Walker, Maxine Walker, and Rosemary Walker Our children; Latrell, Stephanie, William(Tamika), Cortez(deceased), Renita, Shanteal,(Robert), Telisa(deceased), Alfonso, David, Kevin, Richard, Danielle(deceased), Nicholas(Jessica), Derrick, Brandan, Jermon, Rhonda, Yolonda, Courtney, Derek, Darryl(Daneisha), Marcus(Luesette), Gabrielle, Keisha, and Marlene. A host of great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. A host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, 11am at the Watkins Heritage Chapel. Interment Blue Ridge Lawn Cemetery. Visitation from 10am-11am at the chapel. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolence may be shared on our website.
