Lula Bell Johnson

Obituary Lula Bell Johnson, 87, was born on July 17,1931, to the union of Clay and Chasity Johnson in Median, Mississippi. Lula transitioned from this life on Friday, July 20, at the home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and two brothers. Lula was educated in the Yazoo City, Mississippi School District. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. After marrying Samuel Johnson, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1952. She united with Zion Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend F.C. Conway. She was a faithful and active member throughout her life. Lula Bell held many positions in the church. Her last position in the church was being a member of the Mother’s Board and Senior Saint Ministry until her health began to fail. Lula Bell worked as a Maid in several of the major hotels in Kansas City, Missouri and in Kansas City, Kansas. She always had her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren around her and a lot of her nieces and nephews also. Lula loved children so much that she finally found the work she loved. She became a Child Care provider. After she re-married Samuel Johnson, they became Foster Parents. She continued to do this until her health began to fail. Lula loved her Foster Children so much that she didn’t want to give them back when the time came. Lula Bell Johnson leaves to cherish her memories, five children: Gloria (Ronnie), Sam, Jr. (Rhonda), Donna (Larry), and her youngest Annie Johnson and one special adopted son, Simon Peter (SP) Rice all of Kansas City, Missouri; two sons-in-law, Ronnie l. Gates and Larry Hall; one daughter-in-law, Rhonda Johnson; two sisters, Rean Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri and Katie Turner of Yazoo City, Mississippi; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, cherished friends and church family. Funeral Service for Lula Bell Johnson will be held Saturday, July 28, 11:00 a.m. at Zion Grove Baptist Church, 2801 Swope Parkway. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church.
