Mrs. Lillie M. Bates

Lillie Pearl Bates, aged 93, passed away in her home December 8, 2024. She was born to the parentage of Mrs. Gertrude (O’Gilvay) Adams and Mr. E. K. Adams, on September 18, 1931, in Haslam, TX. She accepted Christ at an early age, as her father was a preacher, and she believed that we all are beautifully made by God. Lillie had 13 siblings, they lived and grew up in Haslam, Shelby County, Texas. Later the family moved to Nacogdoches, Texas. Lillie then moved to Diboll, Angelina County, Texas where she had one son, Lonnie B. Hill, met and married Samuel T. Bates, and moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Lillie worked for a printing company until it went out of business, and then went on to being a domestic worker until retirement, and she was always dedicated to helping at her church, Swope Parkway Church of Christ. She had a very loud laugh, that would make you laugh yourself. She loved her family, and enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing at the lake, and traveling. She most often spoke her mind, and when she wouldn’t, she would say, “Lillie shut your mouth!” She was strong and endured in life, and encouraged us to do so, with help from the Lord. Preceding her in death, her husband, Samuel T. Bates; her son, Lonnie B. Hill; one great grandson, Marckeith Edwards; and 12 siblings. She leaves to cherish her memory, one younger sister, Annie Gertie Adams; one granddaughter, Sholanda (Hill) Edwards (Alexander); three great grandchildren. Taylor C. Reese; Trinity M. Reese; and Ellis Edwards; a daughter-in-law, Dorene Hill; two grandsons, Orthell; and Dion Brooks; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family; and friends. Lillie Bates was a remarkable mother, grandmother, and even great grandmother whose strength and grace were evident throughout her life. Even in her later years, she continued to faithfully attend church and took great care in nurturing her well-being. A devoted servant of God, Lily lived a life of faith and love. She cherished her family deeply, and her love for her late husband was unwavering. Now, she is reunited with him in the eternal peace of heaven, where she is embraced by the love of God. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday December 21, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Swope Parkway Church of Christ. Interment: Floral Hill Cemetery. Visitaton 10-11:00 a.m. at the Church.
