Mr. Larry J. Gaddis

Obituary Chief Hospital Corpsman Larry Joe Gaddis (HMC) of the United States Navy was born February 28th , 1955, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma and passed away on August 26th , 2022, in Grandview, Missouri. He was born to the loving parents of Joseph Jasper Gaddis Jr. and Lula Mae Gaddis. After the passing of his late father in 1965, Larry along with his mother and two sister’s Lovie Jean Duncan and Sharon Irene Gaddis moved to Kansas City, Missouri from Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma. Larry attended Central High School and graduated from Kansas City Missouri Public school. Larry and his dear childhood friend Ricky Reece were wondering what the next step in their young adult lives would be and decided to join the Navy on a whim on November 29th, 1976. That swift decision turned into a journey of a lifetime. During his time in the Navy, he trained and developed numerous comrades. Larry traveled the world while in the U.S. Navy. A few places he served during his time in the Navy was Okinawa, Japan, Buford, South Carolina and San Diego, California. Larry spent time serving at the Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. He received countless awards. Some of the achievements he received throughout the years of service was the Chief Petty Officer Creed and obtained the rank as Chief Hospital Corpsman. After serving over 20 years in the Navy, he retired back home to Kansas City, Missouri on November 30th, 2000. Larry was the life of every party; he lit up the room with his infectious personality. He was very charming and loved looking fly with his signature gold rings. In his down time, Larry enjoyed reading a good book, watching Kansas City Chief’s games, hanging out with his buddies and his beloved cat Blue. Larry is preceded in death by his precious infant daughter and parents. Larry leaves his legacy to be cherished by his loving sons Larry Joe Smith (Kansas City, Mo), Marcus Green (Brooklyn, New York), and Larelle Jenkins-Gaddis (Jacksonville, Florida). Grandchildren Larry Smith III and Larrionna Smith. Sisters Lovie Jean Duncan, Sharon Irene Gaddis, Mary Joe Hopgood and a host of nieces and nephews that he loved to pieces. He is our Captain, who will steer our ship into calm, still waters.” Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, 11:00am at Linwood Chapel. Interment Parklawn Cemetery.
