Ms. Kim Y. Nickerson

Kim Yvette Pierce was born on April 6th, 1960 to George McGaugh and Betty Davis in Kansas City, Kansas. She was adopted and raised by Alice Phillips and Earl Pierce. She attended school in the Kansas City area, graduating from Southeast High School in 1978 with a high school diploma as well as a cosmetology certificate. In 1980, she married Kevin Nickerson Sr and to this union, two children were born, Danielle and Kevin. She would later give birth to her youngest daughter, Whitney. Kim was raised as a Christian, always relying on God’s word to guide her and she regularly used it to guide others. She served in ministry, and found joy in getting the children ready to perform for Easter. In 1982 she began working at Children’s Mercy Hospital, which would be a huge part of her life. She worked in the emergency room and vision care for most of her 22 years of employment and made many lifelong friends. It was here that she met and formed a special bond with Marva “Sugamama” Saunders. Sugamama and her children, and grandchildren would become family to her and her children, and will continue to be family. After Children’s Mercy, Kim spent a brief time working at Caremark in the specialty pharmacy division before opening her own business in 2009, Kiddie Kare. Kiddie Kare was open for 11 years and she became Yia-Yia to a host of other children during that time, whom she loved dearly and kept up with as much as she could. Everyone that knew Kim, knew her love for her children, her grandchildren, football, her pets and her SHOES, but not cheap ones! You would never see Kim without a cute pair of shoes on! She enjoyed crafting, decorating, and preparing for events. Her love for a Saturday of going from Macys, to TJ Maxx, to Marshall’s and wherever else time allowed is unmatched. Every Sunday, Monday and Thursday you could expect her to be watching the Chiefs and the Rams, cuddled up with a pet, most recently, her fur baby Bailee Trenae! Kim was preceded in death by her parents, George and Betty; her adopted parents, Alice and Earl and Sugamama. Left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Angela Mitchell, Teressa Harper (Michael), Michael Pierce and George McGaugh. Her pride and joy were her children and their spouses: Danni and Chris Wiley, Kevin and Bebe Nickerson, Whitney and Gregg Hollins, and Veydra and Mark Chairs; her step-daughter Simone Taylor; her beloved friend, David Ersery; her Godsons, Clifford Solomon Jr and Dominique Jacks Jr, and last but absolutely not least, her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Yia Yia”: Lamar, Breona, Amare, Nicholas, Zacarias, Lydia Yvette, Jarel, Taylor, Hannah, Drew, Gideon, Auna and Alex, and one great-grandchild, Blair Brooks; all of her children’s friends with whom she had a special bond (many of them calling her mama as well) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, 11:00 a.m. at Central Christian. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones Funeral Homes & Cremation.
