Ms. Kathryn L. Blankinship

Kathryn Lee Blankinship, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 69 under the collaborative care of Saint Luke’s Hospice and Alpine Breeze Health and Wellness Facility. Born on March 14, 1956, in Des Moines, Iowa, Kathryn was the daughter of LaMar Booker, Sr. and Elaine Booker, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her cherished sister, April Booker. Kathryn’s life was marked by love, resilience, creativity, and a deep commitment to family and service. She is survived by her children, Marcus D. Blankinship, Sr., Adriane D. Blankinship, and G. Lawrence Blankinship III (Asha). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Marcus Blankinship, Jr., Jamar Blankinship, Kamali Blankinship, and Kiri Blankinship. Kathryn also leaves behind four loving siblings; Corliss DeVan, Teresa Booker, Denice Booker, and LaMar Booker, Jr.; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. A graduate of Tech High School in Des Moines, Kathryn pursued higher education with determination and grace, from Avila University, Park University, and Penn Valley College. Her career path was as diverse and dynamic as she was working at Sears, teaching art, serving at the IRS, and ultimately retiring from the Lansing Correctional Facility, where she held the role of prison guard. Kathryn had a zest for life and found joy in both the big and small moments. She loved traveling to visit family in Des Moines, Creve Coeur (St. Louis suburb), and Santa Clarita. Christmas time was her favorite season, filled with lights, laughter, and cherished traditions. A talented painter and baker, Kathryn’s still-life artworks and beautifully decorated cakes were symbols of her warmth and creativity. Kathryn had a gift for hand knitting, often creating beautiful blankets and scarves with thick yarn, each piece a labor of love. In quieter moments, she could be found watching the Hallmark Channel or staying engaged with the world through MSNBC. Kathryn’s strength, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will remain her enduring legacy. Her gentle spirit and warm smile will be missed beyond words and remembered forever.
