Mrs. Julia Allen

Julia Ann Allen, 76 was born on August 9, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri to Obie and Katherine Nicholson. Julia passed away on Wednesday June 12, 2024, at her home in Blue Springs, Missouri after a ten-year battle with PLS (Primary Lateral Sclerosis). Julia graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO in 1965. After the birth of her second child Ashley; Julia went on to further her education at Longview Community College where she received an Associates in Arts degree. She persevered to the next level of her education by completing a Bachelor of Arts at Mid-America Nazarene College and then went on to receive her Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Webster University in Kansas City, Missouri. Julia accepted Christ at an early age at 35th Street Baptist Church. She was a member of Palestine Missionary Baptist Church under the late Reverand Earl Able and a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Dr. Donald D. Ford Sr. Julia was united in holy matrimony to Paul C. Allen on September 16, 1967. To this union two daughters were born, Shawna and Ashley. Julia wore many hats in life. In terms of her work and background she spent the early part of her career employed with the City of Kansas City, Armco Steel, Midwest Research Institute (MRI) and finally retiring from Sprint in 2009. Her tenure at Sprint is where she met her best friend Carolyn Boyd of 34 years (affectionally known as “bestie”). In addition, she worked part-time with her husband in their family business Allen Janitorial Service, J. Jill, Chico’s, and LINC with their before and after school program. Julia had a deep love for family and friends, caring for others and holidays. While she was working, she started her day at 5:30 AM walking the neighborhood of Candlelight Ridge with her friends Freddie Hickman and Geneva Moore. She enjoyed making a house a home with weekly home cooked meals, desserts, spending time with extended family and making every holiday and birthday a family tradition of celebration. Julia had for love of planting flowers and making sure her yard was immaculate during the fall, spring, and summer months. She also had a love for volunteering and serving with Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Ronald McDonald House, and Christmas in October just to name a few. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Obie Nicholson, and Katherine D. Harmon along with her sister Roseline Nicholson. Julia will be deeply missed and leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted and loving husband and caregiver of 56 years Paul Allen. Her two daughters Shawna Allen-Echols (James) and Ashley Thompson (Keith) both of Lee’s Summit, MO. Two grandchildren; Carolena Echols and Prince Thompson. One uncle, four brothers, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and special friends (Carolyn Boyd, Gloria Harper, Sylvia Harrison, Jennifer Hunter) Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, 11am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolence may be shared on our website.
