Ms. Juanita Mitchell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Juanita McCoy Mitchell 1925-2024 Juanita, affectionately called “Sister or Aunt Sister” was born on January 30th, 1925, in Plumersville Arkansas to the union of Arthellus and Beatrice Wolfe McCoy. She was educated in Conway County training school (East Side High School) in Menifee Arkansas. Juanita relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1943. She worked her first job at General Box Factory. She later worked at Folgers Coffee company for 10 years. In 1961 she began her governmental career at Remington Arms, Lake City Ammunition Plant where she worked for 23 years. Juanita was gifted with great leadership abilities and training skills. She met many government leaders from Washington DC who visited the plant on a regular basis and lauded her with accolades for a job well done. Juanita joined Philadelphia Baptist Church in Menifee Arkansas at an early age. In 1953 she joined Friendship Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Rev I.H. Henderson Sr. While at Friendship, she sang in the choir for many years, as well as worked with other missions and organizations within the church. She loved to cook and spent many years as a part of the kitchen staff at church. Juanita was a loving and caring woman who took care of her family. She did everything she could to help when someone was in need. Juanita was married to Eugene Mitchell. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her son, six brothers and four sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory one sister Lirlene McCoy of Chicago, IL. One granddaughter Tiffany Hammond of Silver Springs, MD. One grandson Stephen Hammond of Kansas City, MO. One daughter in-law Verna Hammond of Kansas City, MO. “Special Children” daughter’s/niece’s Evelyn Ferguson (Alvin) of Borger, Texas, Freda Roberts and Tamika Hanks of Kansas City, Mo. A Special son/nephew James McCoy (Theresa) of Independence, Mo. “Special Cousins” The Hammond Family from Arkansas, Georgia and Texas as well as an abundance of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024,12pm at Friendship Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation from 11am-12pm at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Condolences may be shared on our website.
