Ms. Josephine Williams

Josephine Williams was born September 17, 1938 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Arnester and Thelma Johnson. She was the eldest of eight children born to this blessed union. Josephine married Marion Williams and later moved to Swan Lake, Arkansas in 1970 . Josephine was a devoted and caring mother of 10 children. She loved her children and they loved their “Mama”. Josephine often expressed, “The Lord surely did give me some good children.” Josephine was a humble, yet strong christian woman who loved the Lord. As a devoted member of the Spruce St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri she served on the Mother’s Board and participated in Sunday School. Josephine spoke passionately about the Lord. She was a student of the Bible and a worshiper of Christ. Those who knew her would instantly be drawn in by the love that she demonstrated so naturally. She was a very creative person who enjoyed family vacations, crafting and sewing. She did not believe in wasting resources and could find a way to fix just about anything. Josephine loved black history, quartet music and was a phenomenal cook. Josephine was employed for many years in the Altheimer-Sherril/Wabbaseka School District, where she worked as a Teacher’s Aide. Her co-workers and former students spoke highly of her and raved about how sweet she was to everyone. Those who knew her knew that she would go above and beyond to help anyone in need. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arnester and Thelma Johnson; son, Reggie Williams; brothers Calvin Johnson, Arnester Johnson Jr., Ray Johnson, Curtis Johnson, and Orlando “Bird” Johnson. Her sister, Melvina Johnson transitioned shortly after Josephine transitioned. Josephine deposited a legacy of love in her children and grandchildren for generations to come. She is greatly missed by her nine children- Daphne Mayfield, Deborah Gipson(Albert), Montriese King(Trevia), Melanie Williams, Yvette Storay(Cedric), Niva Brown(Carl), Marlon Williams, April Williams, Wendy Barnes(George); 24 grandchildren, as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, in-laws, other relatives, and friends.
