Jimmy L. Emory Sr.

Obituary Jimmy Lee Emory passed away on October 8, 2018 at his home. Jimmy was born August 6, 1946 in a small town in Mississippi called Stringtown to the union of Mary J. and Mancie Emory. The family moved to “another” small town in SE Missouri called, West Hermondale. This is where his childhood started; living on a farm with chores such as sawing wood, milking cows, pumping water and feeding the mules, cows and the hogs. The cow went by the name of “Buttercup.” He would wander away often, it was Jimmy and brother Carnell’s duty to find him, even if it was dark. He attended St. Paul and Hollins Northside School. He was a trumpet player in school. Him and 2 of his buddies practiced every day after school, the same tune for months. Jimmy lost his father at an early age, so being the 2nd oldest he had to help with his younger brothers and sisters, he chopped and picked cotton to buy his own school clothes and bike. He picked way more cotton than his siblings. He moved to Kansas City in 1965 where he continued his education at Lincoln High. In 1967 he met and married his first wife Donna Noland. During his young years he acquired the nickname “Beady” from his buddies, because of his kinky hair type. Jimmy was a smooth and quiet fellow with the celebrity “Curtis Mayfield” look; driving Mustangs and Cadillac’s. Jimmy also was very kind hearted and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Jimmy drove for the Yellow Cab Company for over 17 years and worked for the KC Call newspaper for 30 years until his death. He also worked at Double Nickel Comer Store at 55th and Garfield and a neighborhood store located on corner of 72nd and Indiana.In the 70’s, he met a young co-worker of his mom’s Connie Jones, it was Love at first site. On October 21, 1977 he made her his loving Wife to the end. Jimmy loved spending time with his family, traveling and visiting family and friends near and far. October 24, 1983 Jimmy dedicated his life to Jehovah, were he remained faithful to the end. He enjoyed spreading the word of Jehovah. He was a Ministerial Servant. His favorite dinner was his wife’s pinto beans, ham hocks and catfish. He also loved his sister’s sweet potato pie and jelly cake. Mr. Emory was a good Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin and Friend. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary and Mancie Emory, Grandmother Inez Hobbs, Mother-in-law Vivian Warren; four brothers: Illinois, Jeff, Robert and Michael Emory and four nephews Nicholas Emory, Carnell, Andre Smith and Lonnie Johnston. He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife Connie Emory; five kids: Jimmy Emory Jr., of Washington, Angel Emory, Yolanda Carol Smith, Towana Watts (Kenneth) of Kansas City and David Jones of St. Joseph MO.: Six sisters, Corrine Smith, Geneva Johnson, Brenda Willinngham (HD), Mary Cummings, all of Kansas City and Johnnie Pearl Rogers, of Blytheville, Ar: Four Brothers Carnell Emory,(Dorothy), Norvell Emory, Mancie Emory Jr., Marvin Robinson (Deborah) all of Kansas City. One Aunt, Doroty Miller of Greenville MS., one uncle Elder Willie Jones of Detroit MI and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
