Obituary Jessie June Marshall was the second child born to the union of Johnny Lee (Johnnie Lee) Maddox, Sr. on Friday, February 8, 1946, at Douglass Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Named after her two grandfathers, she was affectionately called “Sue” and “Sue Baby” by many. A product of the Kansas City, Kansas USD 500 School District, Jessie was a student of academic excellence, attending Dunbar Elementary, Northeast Junior High and graduating from Sumner High School, Class of 1964, with educational honors of high esteem. At the age of ten (10), Jessie was baptized at Bethel Baptist Church of Kansas City, Kansas by Rev. R. C. Higgs. She actively served as an Usher, in the Youth Choir and was trained through her participation in Baptist Training Union. After moving to Los Angeles, California, she joined Paradise Baptist Church under Dr. A. Iverson, later Mt. Tabor Baptist Church under Dr. E.E. Stafford. In 1967, Jessie graduated from Kansas City, Missouri (KCMO) Board of Education for Licensed Nurses at General Hospital No. 2. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing at St. Mary’s Nursing College in Kansas City, Missouri. She also received accredited certifications in nursing from Kansas City, Kansas Community College, L.A. City College, L.A. Trade Tech College and Cypress College majoring in Nursing Education. Having a passion for a high caliber of medical ethics and care, her first tenure was at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kansas City, Missouri, as a Nurse. She was also employed at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, L.A. California, rendering professional care to a diverse population that included movie stars, dignitaries, as well as the common ordinary people. She worked in various departments; ICU, CCU, Med-Surgery, G.I., Cardiology and the ER. She was a Nursing Coordinator in Cardiology, ENT, Orthopedic Surgery and Ophthalmology. Each patient she encountered was equally important to her as she gave of herself through her spiritual gift of service to mankind. Being well versed and knowledgeable of her profession in medicine, she impacted many lives of those she encountered. Later, she joined the medical team at Tabor Medical as Supervisor of the Eye Center and retired in 1999 from her profession in this position. She continued to be an asset to family and friends with her expertise, skills and knowledge in medicine. On December 26, 1973, she married Darryl Glenn Marshall, the love of her life. Darryl resided in Los Angeles, California where they began their union and later relocated to Garden Grove, California. With forty-eight (48) years of marital blessings, they acknowledged God as the source of their love and the two of them lived a life of happiness and true commitment of their vows. After she and her husband retired, they relocated to Kansas City, Missouri in 1999 with a goal to be closer to family as they continued the joys of marriage. Upon her moving to Kansas City, Missouri, she continued to worship and give adoration to God and united with Graceway Church of Raytown, Missouri. Jessie reached out and touched the world to make it a better place to live in with a beautiful smile, a positive, great and giving personality. With God, husband, family and friends, she brought sunshine to their lives. On August 14, 2022, 11:45 a.m., at North Kansas City Hospital, Jessie June Marshall accepted His calling and made her transition from earth to glory. God selected Jessie June Marshall, a radiant rose, from her earthly beautiful garden in the presence of supporting family and friends. Her mere presence will forever be cherished and remembered by many. Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny Lee and Johnnie Lee Maddox, Sr.; brother, Clarence Maddox and sister, Juanita Dennis. She leaves her devoted husband, Darryl Glenn Marshall; sisters, Bettye Maddox, Beverly (Marvin) Baylis; and Kathryn (Carlton) Ridley of Raytown, Missouri; brother, Johnny (Brenda) Maddox, Jr., from Kansas City, Kansas; and Sister-in- law: Elizabeth Anthony Thompson of Atchison, Kansas, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and beloved friends. Everyone will sadly miss her, but we will forever cherish the marks she made that touched our lives. Gone, but never, never, forgotten. An angel of God touched her. If love could have saved her, she never would have left the presence of those who loved her. She is absence from the body, but present with the Lord, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8)” Thank you, God, for your beautiful creation!
