Obituary Life Reflections of Mother Jerlene (Nanu) Harrell Jerlene Harrell was born October 4, 1932, in Mayflower, Arkansas to the parents of Booker and Rosetta Hoskins. Both parents, husband, Johnny Harrell, sisters, Rosie Lee Senior and Ruby Cook preceded her in death. Mother Harrell grew up on a farm, where she went to school during the week and church on Sunday in the same building, Pleasant Branch Baptist Church. This is also the same place where she confessed her hope in Christ at an early age. Her family moved from Mayflower to Conway, Arkansas, where she completed her education. The family joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Conway and then she later moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she met and married her husband, Johnny Harrell, February 8, 1958. Three children were born to this union. Leaving Arkansas relocating to Kansas City, Missouri, Mother Harrell joined Macedonia Baptist Church under the pastorate of Reverend Preston Allen, Sr. She was a faithful servant under the leadership of three pastors, Reverend Preston Allen, Sr., Pastor Preston Allen, Jr. and Pastor John L. Books, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Usher Ministry, Mission Ministry, Pastor’s Aide, Financial Committee, and Mother’s Ministry. Mother Harrell pushed the importance of education and was enrolled in school taking classes, during the times she was raising her children. Mother Harrell’s career was to become a nurse and God favored her to become an LPN, then a Registered Nurse, taking the necessary classes and graduating from Truman Medical Center and Penn Valley Community College. After retirement, Mother Harrell remained active in church and in her community. She was an avid reader and was a proud member of the Readers Inspiring Readers book club. Mother Harrell indeed lived a full life, dedicated to serving God, family, and others. She was escorted by the angels on Thursday, May 27, 2021. Mother Harrell leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, her children, Brenda Harrell of Sandy Spring, GA, Timothy Harrell of Stonecrest, GA, and Darlene Harrell of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren who affectionally called her Nanu ~ Crashawnda Hardy (Winston), Brandon Harrell, Joshua McClinton, Rukiya Harrell, and Tariq Mikail Harrell; four great grandchildren, Arianna Harrell, Roneisha Hardy, Caliyah Hardy, and Nova Jiles; two brothers, Sylvester Hoskins (Gladys) of Detroit, MI, Wilbert Hoskins (Tempie) of Stone Mountain, GA; two sisters, Minnie Isaac of Kansas City, MO and Dorothy Proctor of Stone Mountain, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, and tons of spiritual daughters. Funeral service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2021, 11:00am at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the church.
