Mrs. Jeanette Guliford

Obituary Jeanette Riley Guliford was born in Kansas City, Kansas, August 15, 1929, to the union of Jesse Lee Everett and Russell Morris Riley. She received her education in the Kansas City, Kansas school district except for one year when she resided in Washington, D.C. with an aunt and uncle. Jeanette returned to Kansas City and attended Northeast Junior High School and Sumner High School, graduating in the class of 1947. She was baptized when she was nine years old by the late Reverend John Moore at Metropolitan Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Later, in her teens, she joined Olivet Institutional Baptist Church. On December 26, 1947, Jeanette united in marriage with Arthur Sidney Guliford (Art). To this union are three children, Arthur Sidney Guliford, Jr., Rodney Craig Guliford, and Lisa Lynette Guliford Carter. In later years Jeanette united with First Baptist Church of Quindaro where she remained until her demise. She was a Trustee and Treasurer of the Scholarship Committee. She was employed by Armco Steel Corporation for 20 years and by the State of Kansas with SRS for nine years. Jeanette and Art loved to travel; they travelled by land, by sea, and by air to different parts of the world and visited with children and grandchildren each year. They were members of the “Jolliettes Travel Club” and travelled to different sections of the USA each year. Jeanette always believed that each child should be happy and well-provided for and she was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends in times of need. Memories of her love will be cherished in the hearts of her sons; Arthur Sidney Guliford, Jr. (North Las Vegas, NV) and Rodney Craig Guliford (Falls Church, VA); her daughter, Lisa Lynette (William/Willis) Carter (Schaumburg, IL); grandchildren, Eric A. Guliford (Peoria, AZ), Nina S. (Evan) Delaney (Colorado Springs, CO), Brian S. Guliford (Tempe, AZ), and Jordan J. Carter (Chicago, IL); ten great grandchildren, two great-great granddaughters, two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Kay (Dal) Overton (Kansas City, MO), Teddy Singleton (Kansas City, MO) a host of nieces and nephews; and a very special niece, Chiquita C. Coggs (Holden, MO). Funeral service will be held Friday, September 10, 2021, 11:00am at First Baptist of Quindaro, KCK. Interment Highland Park, KCK. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 9, from 6pm-8pm at the church. Visitation will be from 9am-11am at the church. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
