Mr. James C. Gibson Sr.

James Calvin Gibson, Sr. was born on April 3, 1931, in Roanoke, Alabama, to Charles T. Gibson and Lillie Hill Gibson. He was the second out of two children born of this union. James attended R. T. Coles High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He was on the football team and was very active in the Army ROTC. He graduated in 1950. James married Wynona B. Clark in 1950. Together they raised two sons: James C. Gibson, Jr. of Rio Vista, California; and Michael E. Gibson of Kansas City, Missouri. He later remarried. James worked for several years at Brockett Cement Company in Kansas City, Missouri as a bricklayer and concrete pourer. Later he worked several years at the US Post Office in Kansas City, Missouri and retired due to medical complications. He and his older brother, William J. Gibson, Sr. were instrumental in building many structures in Kansas City and pouring concrete for paving many of its streets. For several years he and his brother served in the Missouri National Guard. For several years James was an active and faithful member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri and served as an usher on the Usher Board. James spent his final days in Northern California being attended to by his son, James, Jr., before he passed away on March 18, 2025. James was preceded in death by his late mother and father; Mr. Charles T. Gibson and Mrs. Lillie Hill Gibson, his older brother, William J. Gibson, Sr. James leaves to cherish his memories two sons, James C. Gibson, Jr.; and Michael E. Gibson; grandchildren, Marla Gibson Anderson; Carla Gibson Buchanan; James C. Gibson, III; Amber Gibson Henriquez; and Bryce Gibson; twelve great grandchildren, William J. Gibson, Jr.; Gregory Gibson; Terry Gibson; nephews; niece, Deborah Gibson; a host of relatives and friends. James was loved and respected by his family, church and community. He will be missed, but his memory will live on. We can be assured that he is resting peacefully in God’s loving presence. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday April 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist Church 3530 Chelsea Blvd. KCMO 64128. Interment: Mt. Moriah West. Visitation: 10-11:00 a.m. at the Church.
