Mr. Homer A. Sharp

In the Beginning.... Mr. Homer Alexander Sharp was born on June 14, 1927, to the union of the late Harry Clifford Sharp and Arbelia Payton Sharp in Huntsville, Alabama. He peacefully answered the call and departed this earthly life on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Homer is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ernestine Sharp; daughter, Joyce Ann Boydston; son, Czar Anthony Sharp; grandson, Garron Kinard Boydston; his parents, Harry and Arbelia Sharp; his brother, Howard Sharp; and his sister, Carolyn Hammonds. About Homer.... Homer was the oldest of three children, with his twin brother, Howard Lafayette, and his sister Carolyn Elizabeth. He took great pride in being the first twin born. Homer had a variety of interests that brought him joy. His favorite color was blue, he enjoyed traveling and watching the Kansas City Chiefs play. However, his favorite sport was golf, a game he loved to play and follow. Those who spent time around Homer knew he had a great sense of humor. He was always ready with a joke, and no matter how long you were around him, you could count on a good laugh. His playful nature and infectious laughter left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Church, Education and Military Service.... As a child, Homer accepted Christ and became a member of the Pine Grove C.M.E. Methodist Church. His parents instilled in him the importance of always trusting and having faith in God. The Sharp family was dedicated to their faith, attending Sunday School, Bible Study, and Church Services regularly. Whenever the church doors were open, you could count on the Sharps to be there. Homer attended Council High School until his junior year in 1945, when he was drafted into the United States Army in July. During his service in World War II, he was stationed in Germany and France, where he served in various roles, including Utility Repairman, Electrical Specialist, Bridge Builder, and Brick Mason, among others. After completing his military service, Homer relocated to South Carolina and took a position with the 777 Field Artillery, which worked with tanks and cannons. After returning home, Homer completed his high school diploma from Council High School. In 1948, he furthered his education by enrolling in the Atlanta College of Mortuary Science, setting the stage for the next chapter of his life. His Employment.... Homer was a hardworking man during the "Cold War Era." He secured a job at Wonder Bread Bakery, where he worked diligently in several different positions, including Sanitation, Foreman, and Baker, dedicating forty years of his life to the company from 1949 to 1989. Homer’s love for his family was evident in all he did. While working at the bakery, he took on a second full-time job at Dundee Liquor Store for five years. This additional job allowed his wife, Ernestine, to stay at home and care for their children until they were old enough to attend school. Homer’s commitment to his family and work exemplified his dedication and strong work ethic. His Family.... Homer married Ernestine Parker Sharp on September 8, 1951. To this union, four children were born: Joyce, Czar, Homer, and Denise. Homer leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his two children, Homer N. (Doretha) Sharp and Denise Petties, both of Kansas City, MO. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Keith V. Johnson, Terry L. Boydston, Jr., Robin Sharp Jones (Lamont), Reginald W. McBride I (Ashlee), Camille M. Jones, LaTrice Sharp, LaShawn D. Sharp, and Kendra C. Petties. Homer also leaves six great-grandchildren: Terran Boydston, Suave’ Boydston, Myka J. Johnson, Reginald W. McBride II, Lauren D. Sharp, and Vada Johnson. Additionally, he leaves behind his childhood friend, Melvin Lightford, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who were blessed to know him. His legacy of love, humor, and faith will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, 11am Calvary Temple Church. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation from 10am-11am at the church. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences may be shared on our website.
