Gwendolyn Cogshell

Obituary Mz. Gwendolyn M. Cogshell, affectionately known as Gwenie, Moma, Gwen, Sis. and Aunt Gwen, was born in Kansas City, Kansas to William and Mary Kennedy McKinney on March 4, 1948. She was first born, only girl of five children. Both parents, brother, Andre Alonzo McKinney, husband, William Henry Cogshell, Sr., sister-in-law, Sarah, brother-in-law, Dennis V. preceded her in death. Gwen accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas under the leadership of Reverend A. L. Reeves. In later years she united with Palestine Missionary Baptist Church Of Jesus Christ under the leadership of Pastor Earl Abel. Gwen married the love of her life William Henry Cogshell, Sr. and to this union a son, William Henry Cogshell, Jr. was born. Gwen began her education at Keeling, Stowe and then Northeast Junior in Kansas City, Kansas. The McKinney family moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she attended Central Senior High School. She was crowned a Basketball Princess and graduated in 1965. Gwen entered the workforce having various jobs at Kansas City, Missouri Public School as a secretary to Superintendent, Dr. Robert Wheeler, Department of Labor, Jackson County, Sosland, Traders Bank, United Missouri Bank and Public Works. She always gave her best. Gwen lived in Lee’s Summit for twenty-eight years. She will always be remembered as smart, ambitious, kind, giving and a “Classy Lady.” Gwen departed this life September 10, 2020 for her eternal home. Gwen leaves to cherish her memories her son, William Henry Cogshell, Jr.; Jasmine and Camilla of the home; three brothers, William McKinney, Jr. (Stephanie), Shawn VB McKinney, Quintin McKinney; special friend, sister-in-law, Bonnie Henson, sister-in-law, Pamela McKinney, brothers-in-law, James Cogshell, Wesley Cogshell; niece/daughter, Brigette Henson and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
