Ms. Gracie Rosetta Barbour

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” The Psalmist’s testimony could easily be shared by Rosetta “Gracie” McDonald Barbour. Gracie was 3rd of 8 children born to the late Bishop William H. and Faye Rosetta (Harvey) McDonald on June 29, 1941, in Bonner Springs, KS. Gracie was brought up in a Christian home and attended the Olivet Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder T. L. Pleas. She accepted Christ at an early age and was faithful to Him until the end. She attended public schools in Bonner Springs and graduated from Bonner High in 1959. Her educational journey took her to Pittsburg State University where she studied Home Economics. While in college she met Clyde Henry Barbour II. After a short courtship they married on December 22, 1963, in Bonner Springs. Gracie and Clyde were blessed with 3 children. Gracie and Clyde exposed their children to an array of experiences and would take them on annual trips across the nation in their mobile home. They enjoyed a relationship of love and commitment until his passing on November 15, 1990. Mrs. Barbour contributed to the family home. Her jobs at Sears, United Telecom/Sprint, selling Tupperware, and other endeavors allowed her to fund some of her pet-projects and conventions and gave her a stash of discretionary funds. Her first responsibility was to her husband and children, and she did not let her professional career interfere with her dedication to her family. Gracie loved her family. She made special effort to ensure her descendants knew their extended family. “Nana,” would help her grandchildren attend many family functions and would talk about them to anyone who would listen. She became a nightly contributor to the McDonald family Zoom Prayer Meeting (“Zoom Cathedral”). Sister Barbour enjoyed good church. She was an active participant in services. When she moved to Kansas City, she joined Greater Holy Temple under the leadership of Bishop C.N. Rucker. When her father was assigned to Mason Temple she joined. She served in various capacities under her dad and Bishop L. F. Thuston. In 2013, Sister Barbour was led to Evangelistic Center pastored by Bishop Jack Vaughn where she enjoyed great fellowship. Gracie was an individual of great paradox. She was caring but fierce, fun-loving yet serious, humble and confident, curious but content, creative and traditional, giving but frugal, welcoming but cautious, compassionate yet blatant, competitive and cooperative, opinionated but open minded. All of these traits and more comprised the fearfully and wonderfully made Gracie Barbour. Mother Barbour slept away on June 7, 2026. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, William McDonald, and one sister, Lonetta Slaughter. Her memories will be cherished by her children; Crystal (Nathaniel) Thuston, Clyde H. III (Rynekah), and Courtney (Theia); 6 grandchildren, DeLon, Matthew, Ciara, Nadirah, Noel and Naomi; siblings, Luella (Don) Staden, Bishop Wayne (Janice), Vincent (Anne), A. Rene (Tina) and Loren; one aunt, Cora Meredith; and godchildren, Elder Terry Bradshaw Jr, Rachel Bradshaw, and Walter Thomas III and a host of other relatives. Funeral Services will be held on June 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Kansas City Community Church 5901 Leavenworth Road, KCKS 66104. Interment: Bonner Springs Cemetery.
