Mr. Godfrey Davis Jr.

Godfrey Davis Jr. was born on November 15, 1943, in Way, Mississippi, to the union of Godfrey Davis Sr. and Nellie Davis. He was the second eldest of thirteen children. Godfrey received his education at Manual High School in Kansas City, Missouri. He later worked as a journeyman construction worker for J.C. Nichols and Florence Construction. He was a dedicated member of Heavy Construction Laborers Union Local 663, where he served as a driller and blaster for over 21 years until his retirement. At an early age, Godfrey accepted Christ and became a faithful member of Spruce St. Matthews Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri. Godfrey had a deep love for sports, especially boxing. He enjoyed watching western movies and engaging in meaningful conversations about Black history. Known for his vibrant spirit and larger-than-life personality, his presence could truly fill a room. He was a natural storyteller who loved sharing jokes and laughter, earning him the reputation as the “life of the party.” He had a special gift for finding humor in any situation. Above all, he cherished his family, good food, and fellowship with those he loved. Godfrey’s journey on this earth came to an end on June 10, 2026. He was preceded in death by his father, Godfrey Davis Sr.; his mother, Nellie Davis; his brothers, Robert Davis, Thurman Davis, DeWayne Davis, and Tyrone Davis; and his sisters, Janice “Nut” Warren, Nellie Ree Davis Abernathy, and Rosie “Bay Bay” Davis Curns. He was also preceded in death by his nieces, Carla Poke, Sandra Thompson, and Maxine Brown; and his nephews, Terry “Boo Boo” Riley, Ronald Warren, Cortez Wright, and Robert Davis. He leaves to cherish his memory, his lifelong partner Doris Louise Marina; his sons, Randy Anderson and Michael Anderson; his devoted daughter, Angela M. Davis Williams, and son-in-law, Kirk L. Williams; and his loving granddaughter, Maya A. Williams, with whom he shared a special bond. He also leaves one brother, Johnnie Davis (Annette); four sisters, Catherine Brown (Mack), Betty Wright, Joyce McCombs (John), and Mary Wright (Steve); along with a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends; too many to name, but all deeply loved. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church.. Interment XII Gates Memorial Gardens. Visitation: 10:00am - 11:00 a.m. at the church.
