Ms. Glinda Crawford

With heavy hearts, we, along with all who knew Glinda Crawford, mourn her sudden death. Glinda, known by many as “Glennie Bell,” passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024. She maintained her faith in Christ through kindness, grace, compassion, love of family and friends, and expressed gratitude for her long life, full of wonderful experiences. Although, Glinda battled many health complications in recent years, her sudden departure from this world still comes as a shock to all who knew her, but she was ready. She always had faith and proclaimed it by saying, “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me.” Glinda’s journey began May 31, 1947, and was welcomed into this world by her parents, the late Walter Henley, Sr., and Estella (Mason) Henley. She joined three other siblings: Louise, Albert, and Fannie Pearl, who cherished her deeply. Later, she was blessed with more siblings: John D., William Bell, L.C., and Walter, Jr… At a young age, she confessed faith in Christ, was baptized, and became an active member of the Mt. Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church. As a child, she actively participated in Sunday school, youth choir, and performed other youth duties in the church. Glinda grew up in the Tibbee community of West Point, Mississippi, where she attended public school and graduated from Fifth Street Senior High School in 1966. After graduation, Glinda married and moved to Kansas City, Missouri and joined Faith Mission Church. After her health began to fail and she could no longer attend church regularly; she continued to enjoy worshipping the Lord in songs and praises by listening to gospel music and the preaching of the Word of God via radio, television, and her cell phone. She was employed at the University of Kansas Hospital where she worked in the medical records department until she retired. In the 76 years that Glinda lived, she was so many things to so many people. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend—all of whom will continue to honor her legacy by celebrating her life and accomplishments. As a mother, Glinda’s love for her children and grandchildren never wavered and extended far beyond the walls of her home. Her children were always the number one recipient of her wisdom, guidance, and unwavering support, as they navigated through life’s challenges. Glinda is preceded in death by her parents, Walter, and Estella Henley; an only son, Wayne; one sister, Willie Elizabeth Louise; and two brothers, Albert, and John D… Her departure will leave an everlasting impression on the minds and hearts of her husband, Jimmie Crawford; daughter, Valerie Crawford; grandsons, Wayne Henley, Jr., Soul Henley, and DeAnte Cook; granddaughter, Ronesha Cook; great-granddaughters, Amora Farley; and Dior Cook; great-grandson, DeAnte Cook, Jr.; one sister, Pearl Gibson (Perry); three brothers, William Henley (Carla); L.C. Henley (Arlene); and Walter Henley (Shelia); and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. . Funeral services Friday, March 29, at 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
