Ms. Girtha Lee Williams

Girtha Lee (Cain) Williams was born on July 31, 1930, to the union of Roosevelt and Johnella (Parker) Cain in Menifee, Arkansas. She was the second child born to this union. She spent most of her childhood living with her maternal grandparents, John A. and Luella Deadwyley. Her grandparents, parents, two sisters, Helen Hill, and Addie Cain, and two brothers, Clayton Cain, and Franklin Cain, preceded her in death. Girtha was educated in the Arkansas public school system, where she completed her studies. She graduated from Conway County Training School in Menifee, Arkansas. Shortly after, she relocated to Kansas City, Missouri, where she began building her life. At an early age, Girtha professed a saving hope in Jesus Christ and began her lifelong walk with the Lord. On September 21, 1949, Girtha married Jessie Williams. Their union was blessed with four children. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her husband, son Lee Williams, and stepdaughter Jessie Lee Williams Jones preceded her in death. Girtha was employed by Western Electric, later known as AT&T, where she worked in assembly for many years before retiring in the 1980s, only a few years after her husband's passing. She enjoyed trips with family. In May 2001, she took a Mother’s Day trip with her daughters and granddaughters to New York City, just a few months before the events of September 11 (911). In 2010, her family celebrated her 80th birthday with an elegant luncheon aboard the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. In 2020, Girtha was recognized by the Kansas City Council as a longtime resident of District 3. She received a special certificate presented to her at her home on Chestnut. They honored her 90th birthday and more than 60 years living in the community. Girtha remained a faithful member of Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church, joining in 1949. At the age of 95, she was both the church's oldest member and its longest-tenured member, having faithfully served for 77 years. On Saturday, June 20, 2026, God called His faithful servant home to eternal rest. Girtha leaves to cherish her memory three daughters: Patricia Ann Williams of Torrance, CA; Delores Jordan of Van Nuys, CA; and Viola Smith (partner, Peter Guy) of Reseda, CA; one stepdaughter, Bobby Jean Williams- Jones; one brother, Harvey Cain Sr. of OKC, OK; one sister, Yvonne McCay of KC, MO; and two sisters-in-law, Sarah Cain, and Helen Cain Moore of KC, MO. She leaves 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren: 2 great-great-grandsons; and host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Monday July 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenwood Missionary Baptist Church. Interment: Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
