Gilbert H Lane Jr

Obituary Gilbert was born in Kansas City, Kansas on March 18, 1958 to Gilbert and Norma Jean Lane. Gilbert spent his younger years as a Cub Scout and playing little league baseball every season well into his teen years. Gilbert went to grade school and junior high at Immanuel Lutheran School. He attended and graduated high school from Bishop Hogan High School in 1976. Gilbert attended Lincoln University of Jefferson City, Missouri where he majored in Business Administration. Gil was a member of the Stage Crafters and worked behind the scenes in the theater. After graduating, Gil started his career with the Kansas City School District as a Para Professional and eventually a teacher. He thoroughly enjoyed working with children, he loved his work. In 1991, he met the woman that would become his wife, Julie Shepard Colon. He and Julie dated and Gil fell in love with Julie and her children, Jessica and Enrique’. In October of 1993 they married and became a family. Gil’s love of baseball was evident in the way he nurtured Enrique’s love of the game. Gilbert also continued to enjoy baseball as an umpire up until a few months ago. He loved the game and was glad he could do something he loved and stay in shape. On September 6th, Gilbert peacefully left this Earth. Gilbert was a gentle soul. He loved his wife and children more than anything. He was a doting husband, a protective father and grandfather and an attentive brother and friend. Gilbert is preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean, father, Gilbert, Sr., father-in-love, Donald Shepard, Gilbert’s son Enrique’ and cousin Robin. He leaves behind his wife, Julie, daughter Jessica, grandson Jordan, sisters Kimberly Varner (Arthur) and Deborah Lane, brother-in-love Charles (Lissa), nieces Karis, Catherine and Jolie, nephews Clayton, Caleb and Colin, his dear mother-in-love, Ermal Shepard, who loved him like a son and a host of loving cousins, dear aunts, extended family and loyal friends. Gilbert wanted all of you to know that whether you were near or far, if he saw you often or infrequently, he loved you.
