Mr. George Mahan

George J. Mahan, Sr., 93, passed away on April 25, 2024, at home, in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born October 18, 1930, in Brookston, Texas to F. D. and Mary (Tennell) Mahan. He was the oldest of six children. In August 1955 George married Lucille Sylmond. They welcome to that union eight children. They stayed married for eighteen years and divorced in 1973 but they continued to coparent and remained friends throughout the years. George resided in Kansas City, Missouri for sixty-six years. During which time he worked at a Garment Factory in the 1960’s early 1970’s. He then went on to work at Westinghouse Electric for many years where he retired in 1995. George enjoyed fishing and often took his boys fishing when they were younger. He continued that love into retirement. He always stayed busy doing handy work around the house, working on his vehicles and gardening. He took pride in his garden, and it showed season after season. He enjoyed going to the shooting range with his oldest daughter. He also enjoyed family gatherings and being able to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. George was a quiet man, who came from humble beginnings. He was a man of few words, but if you brought up the right topic, you were guaranteed a conversation. He provided great advice and shared great stories of his upbringing and experiences he had throughout his life. He loved his family. George was preceded in death by his parents, F. D. and Mary Mahan, his sister, Bessie V. Jonson, his ex-wife, Lucille Mahan and two sons, Jackie Ray Mahan and Paul Nigel Mahan. George is survived by his daughters, Neta Mahan of Kansas City, Missouri, Cherita Mahan of Dallas, Texas; sons, Michael (Mae) Mahan, Terry (Ladonia) Mahan, Brian Mahan, Sr., George (Joetta) Mahan all of Kansas City, Missouri; sisters, Idell Mahan of Lancaster, California, Ruby Mahan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Verdell Ward of Riverdale, Georgia; brother, Billy Mahan of California; granddaughters, Monique Moore, Kashay Dixon, Keyairra Adams, Kayla Mahan, Brianna Mahan all of Kansas City, Missouri, Daniece Mahan of Dallas, Texas; grandsons, Aaron Mahan of Dallas, Texas, Kendall Mahan, Adrian Mahan, Brian Mahan, Jr., Andre Williams and Edward Mahan all of Kansas City, Missouri; nine great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 5, 2024, from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Private Disposition. Services conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
