Mr. George Richison, Jr.

Obituary George Richison Jr. entered this life on January 21, 1946 in Kansas City, Missouri. He and his twin brother John were born to George Sr. and Opal Richison. The twins were the only two of nine girls and four boys. They were the first set of twins to enter our family which we have a number seven sets of twins. The Family soon moved to the westside of Kansas City, MO where George started Kindergarten at Douglas Elementary School. Over the years as they grew John and George remained close, as twins do. When they entered Manual High School the two started to have separate interest in life. John developed a love for football and George pursued becoming a solider. After high school George joined the United States Navy and traveled to Japan and served in the Vietnam War. While in Vietnam, George was exposed to things that would change the trajectory of his life as he grew older. In 1970’s he earned an honorable discharge from the Navy. This is also the time where he meets his wife. He later acquired three children: Erma, George and Lawanda. In 1980 George reconnected with his Wife, Deborah in Las Vegas, Nevada; where he worked as a Porter at the Hilton Hotel. It was at this time where his health began to shift. When George retired; he and Deborah made a decision to move back to Kansas City, Missouri. This is where they resided until her departure. George Richison has overcome many obstacles in life when it came to his health, he is a true example of a gentle spirit but mighty in this battle called life. Although he has endured so many obstacles, his most memorable moments were spent with his children. As his health deteriorated, it was a blessing to have his granddaughter, Nee, by his side to be of support. His fondest memories were spent with his family. He spoke often about how he loved ridding around with his son, Little George in his new cars. During the holiday’s he loved the dinners he had in his daughter, Lawanda’s home. The well appreciated conversations he had with his daughter, Erma and what a blessing it was for a surprise visit of what we now know as his last Father’s Day with us on earth. George was mild mannered all his life. Not one to make a big fuss about anything. He was appreciative for whatever you did for him but always stepped up when you came against his family. He was preceded in death by his father, George Richison Sr.; his mother, Opal May Richison; and a host of siblings including his twin brother John Richison. He leaves many loved ones to cherish his beloved memories. His three children: Erma Johns-Grace (Daivd Grace), George Atkins (Lashaundra Akins) and Lawanda Jean. A host of grandchildren: Benjamin T. Johns, Quintina A.M. Kind, Larika R. Kind, Ciera S. Grace, Khariyyah Atkins, George Atkins Jr., Giovanni Atkins, Gyvonte Atkins, Nasir Atkins, Niyha Atkins, Mallaiyah Atkins, Lashanequa Kimmins, Dewayne Kimmins, Mahkeia Thompson and four great-grandchildren. Although many of his siblings have come and gone, many are still here to revere his exitance; Valadena Roland, Gerldine Anderson, Ella McBride (William McBride) and Daniel Richison (Sharon Richison). Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021, 10:00am at Graceway Church. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be from 9am-10am at the church.
