Fredric Douglas Lindesay

Obituary Fredric Douglas Lindesay was the fourth child of ten children born July 29, 1928 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Horace, Sr. and Annie Lindesay. Fredric departed this life on May 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by both parents, his wife, Shirley Lindesay, four brothers, Verton, Vernon, Vernell, Sr. and Alfonso, two sisters, Lois Cummings and Florence Cobb and one sister-in-law, Aretha Lindsay. He had limited education throughout childhood because he worked with his father. In 1946 he relocated to Kansas City, Kansas and attended Christ Temple Church. He met Shirley Jean Crowder and they were united in marriage on June 28, 1952. To this union four daughters were born: Blanche, Sharon, Stephanie and Carla. They were able to celebrate fifty-six years of marriage prior to Shirley’s death in March 2009. In 1959, he purchased a home on Sortor Drive in the country in Kansas City, Kansas on fifteen acres and raised chickens, pigs, cows, and horses. One of Fredric's greatest passions was his immaculate garden that he took pride in caring for every year. He would allow family and friends to enjoy the beautiful, fresh vegetables free of charge and would even personally deliver vegetables, especially to the elderly. He also made pepper sauce from peppers out of his garden. He always had watermelon readily available to share with visitors. He was a strong provider for his family as well as a strong family man. Fredric and Shirley absolutely loved hosting family picnics and dinners at their home. He loved his wife’s homemade pies, cakes, and cobblers, but one of his favorite was the blackberry cobbler. They also enjoyed taking their daughters to Velvet Freeze to get a hand packed pint of his favorite ice cream which was black walnut, as well as going to state fairs, carnivals, drive-ins, and attending Sunday School. Shirley would get the girls ready, and Frederic would take the girls to Sunday school EVERY Sunday. Another great passion of his was staying connected with family. He was devoted to attending the Hall-Porter Family Reunions. One of the favorite family traditions was making hog head cheese with his brother Reginald. This was passed down from his father and is a complete family affair including daughters, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. This tradition has been passed down to the next generation of Lindesay’s including his great grandchildren. Fredric worked for Tobin Construction for approximately fifteen years. In 1968, Verton Lindesay, the oldest brother, experienced a tragic accident while working on the job. This led to Frederic and his brother, Vernon, to carry out the family business known as Lindesay’s Tree Service. They worked extremely hard together to maintain a successful business. The business received the contract to remove all the Dutch Elm Trees in Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City. Missouri, which was one of the business’ largest contracts. Fredric had made such a good name for himself and the business that the city of Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri would call on Lindesay’s Tree Service in emergency instances without having to bid on the jobs which was the normal protocol. In the winter time, Fredric split firewood with multiple nephews and grandsons selling the firewood to hundreds of homeowners as well as Bar B Que Restaurants around the Kansas City Area. Fredric was known as a hard worker and became such a brilliant and well-respected man in the community. Although Fredric was only able to obtain a third-grade education, his mind was numerically gifted. Fredric would often quote “God gave me a photogenic mind”. He was a man who took pride in everything he did. He was known for his heart of gold and willingness to give anyone the shirt off his back and not expect anything in return. In 2010, at the age of eighty-two years old, Fredric completed the Firm Foundations Curriculum, an Adult Reading and Writing Program of Literacy and Evangelism International. A special graduation was held to commemorate this outstanding accomplishment. He wore cap and gown and an article was written about it in the In Touch Newsletter. .In In addition, on September 29, 2010, he accepted Christ in his life. This was truly a wonderful accomplishment. Fredric Douglas Lindesay leaves to cherish his loving memory, his four daughters: Blanche, Sharon, Stephanie and Carla Lindesay; one brother, Horace Lindesay, Jr.(Connie); three sisters-in-law: Delores Lindesay, Aldoria Gilbert, Marilyn Lindsey, and Ernestine Lindsay; two grandsons he raised, Louis Monroe (Angela) and Mackale Joyner (Jamil); six other grandchildren: Shirley Wright (Michael), Shanae Creal, Donald Brown, II., Cameron Marsh, Trenton Spears, and Gabrielle Walker; fourteen great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a hosts of very special nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends. Funeral Service for Fredric Douglas Lindesay will be held Monday, May 14, 11:00 a.m. at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 853 Washington Blvd. Kansas City, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Interment, Chapel Hill Cemetery.
