Obituary FRED W. BATTS Fred W. Batts, 78, passed away on July 3, 2019 in Kansas City, Kansas. Fred was born on July 16, 1940 in Hammond, Texas the only son of seven children, born to Wilson and Mable Batts. In 1957, they later moved to Waco, Texas where he graduated from A. J. Moore High School. Fred accepted Christ at an early age and was raised in a Christian home. His favorite book in the Bible was Job. Upon arrival to Kansas City, he attended First Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas and in later years he attended Pentecostal Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop Daniel M. Jordan. He enlisted in the Marine Corp and served four years and received an Honorable discharge. After returning home from military duty, he met and married the love of his life, Alice Marie Thompson. From that union they had one daughter Freda Batts. Fred later moved to Kansas City and was employed at Hallmark Cards, he worked at Alice Chambers for several years as a Supervisor. He then was employed with the Kansas City Power and Light Company where he worked as a Control Operator for over thirty years. In addition to that he was an entrepreneur and he had several rental properties. Fred had a great sense of humor and he loved to laugh. He enjoyed boxing, gardening, listening to music and dancing. When he became a grandfather his pride and joy was his granddaughter Fallon, which he doted on quite often. He took great pride in teaching her about black history. He would give public speeches to share and educate others. He wanted to share his knowledge of his “African American Heritage.” He would often give words of wisdom to his family and friends and he will be missed by his daughter Freda Batts Jefferson, granddaughter Fallon Jefferson and great granddaughter Averi Marie Allen. He lived life to the fullest with an understanding that no days were promised. He leaves the family matriarch his sister Dorothy Ruth Dale and sisters Kay Rodgers and Mildred Ray. He will be sorely missed by his two sister-in-law’s, Jewel Mitchell and Luvein Thompson and two brother-in-law’s, Frank Rodgers and Tony Thompson, and a host of nephews and nieces as well as other family members and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at Pentecostal C.O.G.I.C. 6300 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, Missouri.
