Mrs. Flordia M. (Hawkins) Smith

Obituary Mrs. Flordia Mae Smith was born March 16, 1929 in Lost Prairie, Arkansas to Lewis Hawkins and Elnora James Hawkins. She departed this earthly life peacefully on November 15, 2021 at her home. Both of her parents preceded her in death. Her four sisters: Margarea Warren, Lucy M. Williamson, Pauline Woodruff, Beatrice Wiggins and four brothers: Lewis Hawkins, James L. Hawkins, Herman L. Hawkins and Alexander Hawkins also preceded her in death. Mrs. Smith was educated in the Prescott, Arkansas school system and received her diploma. She moved to Kansas City as a young woman and her first job was an au pair to a Kansas City family. She enjoyed her job and greatly impacted the family she served. Mrs. Smith changed her career path and began working for St. Luke’s Plaza Hospital. While at St. Luke’s Plaza Hospital she became a Certified Surgical Technician. She was employed there for over thirty-six years retiring in the 1980s. Mrs. Smith loved shopping, cooking, gardening and fishing. She was also very well travelled. She enjoyed taking vacations with her friends and her loved ones. Flordia married Harry W. Smith in 1965 and was a devoted wife to him until his passing in 1981. Mrs. Smith was a kind and gentle soul always willing to help anyone in need. She loved her family and became the caregiver of her husband, mother and sister until their passing. Flordia took pleasure in being well dressed and could not pass on a beautiful hat or purse she saw while out shopping. Flordia loved and trusted the Lord with all of her heart and soul; and gave her life to Him and was baptized at an early age. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church for many years under the pastorate of the late Emmanuel Johnson. Then, she moved her membership to Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church which at that time was Pastored by the late Albert L. Colbert, remaining there under the current leadership of Reverend Joseph L. Fletcher until her passing. She was a member of Sunday School class 5C and a member of the Delightful Group where she enjoyed many of their activities. She leaves to cherish her memory, her brother Thomas J. Hawkins her many nieces and nephews and a host of friends and loved ones. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2021, 11:00am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, LVNKS. Visitation will be from 10am-11am at the chapel. Service conducted by Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Funeral Chapel.
